Well I can tell you who is not a hero, a guy who manufactures wounds so he can get sent home early. That's who's not.

The article is a joke guys! http://entertainment.myway.com/celebgossip/pgsix/id/07_19_2004_9.html
GQ SUMS UP W'S VIETNAM YEARS
GQ magazine has weighed in on the debate about George W.
Bush's whereabouts during his stint in the Texas Air
National Guard. The August issue features a spoof
investigation by senior editor Jason Gay, which claims Bush
was a member of an elite spy team called SUMS and single-
handedly brought the Vietnam War to a close by "disrupting
Vietcong activities using fraternity-style gags" in a
mission code-named "Operation Goldfish Swallow." Gay
reports, "As the coup de grace, they lodged a banana in the
tailpipe of Vietcong negotiator Le Duc Tho's car,
temporarily shutting down his motorcade. Incredibly, the
prank techniques wore down the North Vietnamese . . . and
pushed [them] to the bargaining table." The tall tale,
which goes on to finger Bush as Bob Woodward's Deep Throat,
is accompanied by photos of a young W lookalike in tightie-
whities being yelled at by Barbara Bush, boozing in
Vietnamese bars, and hanging out with Mick Jagger and Keith
Richards on another top-secret mission to discover if the
Rolling Stones were "using their lyrics to indoctrinate
American youth towards socialism, drugs, rioting against
the government, bisexuality, hot pants and tea."

These same bastards who attack Bush's National Guard service (and slap every Guardsman and Reservist in the face, in the process) had absolutely no problem with the fact that William Jefferson Clinton total evaded the draft and protested against the Vietnam War in Moscow's Red Square. And they no doubt supported Clinton when he ran against true war heroes/World War II veterans in 1992 and 1996. And now, at their convenience, they want to bring up one's military record.

IIRC Bush volunteered for Vietnam but the war was winding down and there was no demand for pilots, so he had to stay in the Air National Guard.

Here's the actual link .

The article looks pretty gay to me. It appears to be some sort of lame attempt at humor.

I don't understand what is so wrong and shameful with the Texas Air National Guard? That is an elite outfit and very professional. There is nothing wrong with serving your country in the National Guard.

A FEW THOUSAND Air National Guardsmen served in Vietnam with about a quarter of that number that were pilots. I believe some 30 PILOTS lost their lives in Vietnam. How can anyone say to those who served and those who lost their lives, "YOU JOINED to DODGE THE DRAFT and get out of combat." The thought leaves me cold.

However leave it to a GIMMIE to compare AIR NATIONAL GUARD and National Guard duty to be the same as X42's draft dodging masterpiece.

This brings up a related question: Other than the very few months he was in uniform in Vietnam, where was John Kerry during the Vietnam War?

Training to be a fighter pilot is no easy task. It requires a great deal of education and ability. Piloting a boat is child's play compared to flying a plane, especially a complicate aircraft such as the military has. Training in the National Guard is no different than in the regular military. And remember, most National Guard are usually called up as needed. Kerry was just trying to find a way to get in and get out for good. He's is more of a dodger than President Bush.
