The problem is, we will never NOT be at war. We are at war with a tactic, and that means we can never be at peace.
When we fought the Nazis, we were at war with the NAZIS, not with the military concept of combined arms (aka Blitzkrieg).
When we fought the Japanese, we fought the EMPIRE OF JAPAN, not the military technique of kamakaze pilots.
To fight against a tactic -- in this case, terrorism -- is to fight an enemy that can never truly be defeated. That means we will always be at war. That means the deprivations and abrogations of the Constitution need never be rolled back.
We are seeing some of the results today. America, as it was, will never be again -- we are spinning into a totalitarian state most reminiscient of East Germany than anything else: Brutal, information-intensive, and efficient.
Bump for a sound point.
I've been thinking the very same thing for a while now. When we eliminate Osama's merry bunch, there will be another group using terror tactics, and when we defeat them...
bttt
We're the focus of blind envy and hatred because we're happy, lead decent lives, are successful, and really believe the Constitution of the United States. We live it each and every day, much to the consternation of the rest of the world. They just don't get it and they don't want us to have it, either. We were naive, thinking the rest of the world, once the threat of communism was past, would mind their own business and just go about their lives in peace. No way. And now they have the collosal gall to basically tell us we have no right to defend ourselves when we're attacked by a bunch of lobotomized Islamofascist crackpots.
George Washington was dead right when he counseled against foreign entanglements. Europe wants us as their Hessians, to do their bidding, and bleed and die for them on their orders...while they connive to beat us economically and spit in our face. Uh, not going to happen. Not in a million years. This will play itself out, with Europe getting exactly what it deserves.
The results of liberlism. I can tolerate free speech until it becomes head bashing speech. And that's where the 2nd ammendment comes in. Free speech is both protected by, as well as kept in check, with this ammendment.
All of today's 'unpoliteness' is the direct result of liberal attacks on our ability to carry iron. And as usual, the State steps in with a 'solution' to what ails us by filling the power vacuum with 'free speech zones'.
Sadly, as many freepers can attest, these "free speech zones" are a legacy of the Clintonistas. The pubbies shouldn't be continuing the "tradition" of spitting on the first amendment, but are perfectly willing when it suits their purposes.
Agreed Laz. See my sig.
That's a scary pic.
Don't forget to respond with a meaningless, goofy "Loserdopian" animated GIF that took the brain of a small rodent to put together.
To his credit, Clinton only did this sort of thing once, while down in Texas. FReepers were justifiably outraged and with a little bit of news coverage, the practice was stopped.
Not so with Bush. As you've noted, FReepers couldn't be happier with the practice now that it's a republican President muzzling his critics in this despicable manner.
A dim bulb, product of the modern education he received.
