Last call to all freepers and lurkers in good standing to join us for a visit to the Reagan Library on Sunday, August 1st. Details of the day include:
1. Meeting for breakfast at the Marie Callendars in Simi Valley at 20 W. Cochran. We have a room reserved for 9:00 am to 10:30. Try to arrive by 8:30 or so and we can gather in the parking lot. We have a room large enough to accomodate 40 to 50 people.
2. Move to the Ronald Reagan Library immediately after breakfast. The library opens at 10:00, we will shoot for being there between 10:30 and 10:45 am. At that point, visitors can elect to go on a 1.5 hour optional tour. We will convene again at his gravesite at 12:30 or 1:00 for a short memorial service that is being scripted and lead by FReeper Hi Heels (who is a minister here in Ventura County); Doug from Upland will say a few words in regards to Ronald Reagan. We may have some live bagpipe music if everything goes according to plan and the stars are lined up.
3. After the service we will form a FReeper Convoy (try to put www.freerepublic.com signs in your card windows) and will motorcade over the Rabid Dog's house for an afternoon of bar-b-que and conservative fun!!
I'm encouraging people to bring at a couple six packs of their favorite beverages and a sack of ice. There is shopping center located just before Rabid Dog's house for your shopping convenience. Our local Ventura County FReepers will be providing side dishes, etc.
Our guest(s) of honor for the day will be Jim Robinson and family!!! The Reagan Library Trip and Bar-b-Que are one of the stops on their Pacific Coast Freedom Tour.
I'd suggest that we all try to remember to do something like wear red shirts but I know getting FReepers to do anything in an organized, remotely regimental fashion is a ridiculous notion so forget that I even mentioned it. But do try to put a sign in your window so we can do a little advertising for the Forces of Good while we are out and about.
Directions, addresses and phone numbers will be freepmailed to you in the next day or so!
I will be there and bringing a couple of people.
I'll be there... sounds great.. especially the beer part.
We'd sure LOVE to have you join us, Hildy.
Onyx will be off to Mississippi before we know it, so this is REALLY special.
I'll be around for at least another 8 months.
It all of us together having so much FUN that
makes it special. We sure had fun yesterday,
didn't we? I'll never forget it.
Just D*MN! I just sent my husband off to LA today on business thinking there was some reason, in the back of my mind, why I should be tagging along. Now I recall, the Freeper trip to RR library! But I have toured the library and it is excellent! Really enjoyed the Nixon library and the Bush #1 library, too. But the Reagan library, the scenery out there, so gorgeous and special and moving!
We always took our kids everywhere when they were 8 and even younger. I say let the kid go, too. My kids weren't much older than that when we took them to Reagan library and they loved it and they all remember it.
Anybody else staying at Grande Vista? Where's the local Catholic Church and what time is Saturday evening Mass?
Hmm - I wouldn't worry about it. My kids will be there and I know other kids will be there.
Diotima is the one you have to watch out for - she gets really crazy!
(Seriously, we are very respectiful - hic!)
We are there!
I'll be there!
Last call for the Reagan Library trip. Thought you'd be interested in seeing the thread if not the Library, LOL.
put me down for all three... coming over from Agoura,
see you there in Simi! Thanks
Two from Orange County! Does anyone know of a hotel close by for Saturday night? We want to go up that day and be able to eat breakfast with y'all.
I'll be able to make it for breakfast only, but I'll be there!
There are at least three close hotels. Motel 6, Hol Inn Express and the Grande Vista which includes breakfast. We found a great deal ($82) at the Grande Vista.
Time also a bummer for me. Church organist. Will try to make breakfast, and later to the grave site if the preacher isn't too long winded. Probably not the barbecue 'cause of evening church service.
Hey - it isn't to late to join us!
The library loves kids. Bring them. The staff dotes on them.
