Residents Raise Stink Over Smell
Black Water Washes Up At Conimicut
WARWICK, R.I. -- Residents in parts of Warwick are not enjoying their water views these days.
Black, oily water is covering the rocks at Conimicut Point. Some residents saved samples.
Homeowners blame the dredging of the shipping channel in the Providence River and upper Narragansett Bay for the smell. But the state Department of Environmental of Management disagrees, saying the look and odor come from decaying seaweed.
Homeowners said it smells bad and it's having an impact on property values and quality of life. "It's wicked. The stench is unbelievable. We cannot keep our windows open. Even with the windows closed, the smell is coming through," Conimicut homeowner Len Belisle told News Channel 10.
Belisle said some neighbors plan to take their own water samples to a lab for testing.
Residents of Conimicut Point claim the state won't help.

Hope an independent lab does the results?
