once they hit us again and again...all bets are off and I hope we take them OUT, no regrets.

The flip side to that post is one possible solution to the terrorist problem that is absolutely scary. I almost hate to post it, but I will for purely academic purposes, and add the disclaimer that I dont advocate this in any way, shape or form.

A terrorist organization is a trans-national organization, meaning they have no borders, no allegiances except to their maker, and no hinderances of public opinion, politics, etc. They are purely ideological / military in nature and they operate right at the grey line between crime and organized warfare.

In order to fight them effectively, you need to destroy their ability to project power. This means destroying their armies, leaders, communications, and logistics.

When they are operating in a friendly country, you cannot bomb a known terrorist hiding place, etc because you have infringed on your friendly neighbors national sovereignity, so it becomes a law enforcement action and it festers. If they dont act quick enough because they have different laws, then the terrorists escape and become a problem somewhere else. Its a dilemna we see all the time.

This is where it gets nasty.

To end terrorist activities, equally effective transnational organizations with the specific goal of eliminating terrorists and preventing terrorist attacks are probably the most effective means to do it. It smacks of vigilantism, thats why I dont condone it. They could also very easily deteriorate into lawlessness and human rights violations and then you have the same problem in reverse, but they wouldnt have the constraints of governance in their operations and they could strike immediately anywhere in the world.

Its almost like the Sword of Damocles haging over your head, or a perpetual paradox that never solves correctly.
