"(I think it initially came from Debka)"

DEBKA is the mouthpiece for MOSSAD. When they want to make the world "aware" of something, they use DEBKA.

"a new type and style of battle. Prepare to shed blood, let us make it an endless bloody war"

This struck me as well. "A new type and style of battle" could be referring to WMD, or it could even be referring to conventional warfare using formalized structures like a real army. They've been using guerilla tactics forever, because that is the style best suited to terrorism. In other words, thuggery. I don't think the recruits are going to be of a type that will adapt well to the tactics of conventional warfare. IMHO they would be massacred even by the French. Conventional land warfare is the combined arms arena. Tanks, aviation and infantry all working in perfect concert. Take away any of these well coordinated assets and you face disaster. "Endless bloody war" is just more empty rhetoric, I think.

Nope, "a new type and style of battle" has to refer to methodology of inflicting mass casualties. At least that's my take.

I concur. They're not going to meet us on any open ground whatsoever.

They are developing ways to improve their efficiency.

Interesting that you say that. I have been following Debka for about 2 years now, and have always enjoyed their information. Much of it does not come to pass, but they seem to be one of the better online intelligence sites. I have often wondered where they get their information.

This struck me as well. "A new type and style of battle" could be referring to WMD, or it could even be referring to conventional warfare using formalized structures like a real army. Perhaps I should have clarified myself a bit better. I would never believe that they would try to use 'conventional' warfare tactics, it would make very little sense for them to do that. I have a hard time believing that they would even attempt such, especially considering how little luck conventional Arab armies have had in the past 50 years. When I referred to 'ground troops' I was thinking more along the lines of 'cells' of men ravaging the countryside, or something similar. It would not be too difficult, IMO, for cells to massacre groups of people throughout the target country (in Europe, or here for that matter). If something like that ever occurred, it would cause mass panic. As I stated last night, this type of fighting would likely come after a massive WMD attack of some sort (after they have weakened the target country and focused police/military attention to the large cities that suffer said attack).

BTW, here are some quotes from the Debka article from the winter. If these numbers are anywhere close to correct; bad news. We saw what 19 men can do, I can only imagine what several 10's of thousands could accomplish.

"According to French counter-intelligence, al Qaeda has recruited in France alone between 35,000 and 45,000 men and is organizing them into military-style units. They meet regularly for training in the use of weapons and explosives, combat tactics and indoctrination and are controlled from local and district command centers under the organization’s national French command.

In Germany, Al Qaeda has recruited 25,000 to 30,000 men. The British domestic intelligence agency MI5 estimates 10,000 faithful have joined up in Britain, providing Blunkett with more than ample cause for concern. "

"But unknown numbers are enlisting in Belgium, Switzerland, Holland, Sweden and Norway."
