I respectfully disagree with your take on their knowledge level. UBL has demonstrated a remarkable knowledge of world history.

If the goblins that are here are under instruction to hit T.O.O., then I agree that their given priorities wouldn't include subtleties.

I also agree that they wouldn't perpetrate a symbolic or historical attack unless there was a major payday in it for them no matter who picked the target.

Their knowledge of our history is a moot point if we're together (as we seem to be) on your second and third points. Actually I think that the upper eschelons of the AQ chain of command are quite well educated even if they are blinded by hatred. But the trigger pullers weren't chosen to be rocket scientists, but rather for their devotion to Allah enough to give their own lives to the "cause." Their hate is a strong motivator but if they allow it to overcome their senses, it might work to our own advantage. Such consuming hate may cause them to make mistakes which we can seize upon.
