The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Good grief - Charlotte is a big banking center - Wachovia, Bank of America, Fleet, and others. There's a nuclear power plant close by in Huntersville. Also big IBM presence, Lowes nearby and Nascar and the Panthers!!

Don't you be bad mouthing my home state of North Carolina Davey! (just kidding).

If memory serves me well there were/are some pretty large cells in N.C. and quite a few mosques. There was a 9/11 AQ link to Greensboro (the university there).

Also Fayetteville is home of Ft. Bragg (Marines and SpOps) as well as some other military in the state.

Wilmington is a fair sized port.

There is also lots o' good ole boys and girls with lots o' guns.

NC has 'big time' banking in Charlotte. Headquarters of Bank of America and Wachovia. I believe Charlotte is the second largest banking center in the US.

In the Raleigh-Durham area there are many biotech and computer companies. In addition we have a large number of military bases in the eastern part of the state, i.e. Camp Lejuene among others.

... meanwhile, over in the other hot spot:

Blasts hit churches across Iraq, killing 11, wounding at least 50

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) — Assailants triggered a coordinated series of explosions outside five churches in Baghdad and Mosul during Sunday evening services, killing 11 people and wounding more than 50 in the first major assault on Iraq’s Christian minority since the 15-month-old insurgency began.

In separate violence, a suicide car bombing outside a police station in Mosul killed five people and injured 53, and three roadside bombs in Iraq killed four, including a U.S. soldier, and wounded six, police said. A drive-by shooting north of Baghdad late Sunday killed three police officers and wounded three others.

The bloodshed followed a night of clashes between U.S. troops and insurgents that killed 12 Iraqis and wounded 39 others in Fallujah.

Experts fear South Africa's Muslim community could be a breeding ground for terrorists

Last month, U.S. customs agents at an airport in South Texas arrested a South African woman thought to have al-Qaida links as she tried to fly to New York. The arrest may have played a role in the U.S. government's decision Sunday to raise the threat level and announce specific buildings as potential targets in three U.S. cities.

But that is just the latest incident in what terrorism experts fear is a growing danger that al-Qaida and its ideologies have inspired South African groups to commit acts of terror at home and abroad.

South African authorities announced in May that they had uncovered an al-Qaida plot to disrupt the nation's presidential elections. Five suspected agents were apparently deported after entering on South African passports that had been obtained fraudulently, an action that led to more arrests in Jordan and Syria. One of the Jordanian suspects reportedly had used a marriage of convenience to a South African woman to win South African residency.

Last week, two South Africans with alleged ties to al-Qaida were arrested in Pakistan. Additionally South Africa's Department of Home Affairs said that "boxes and boxes" of South African passports had been found in London, apparently sold by South African officials. (snipped)

The following article, while dated, expresses in the "quote of the week" exactly our concern since the updated threats of terror this weekend:

For the list:
I always carry in my back pack, along with other things, a "North" brand half face mask with at least 2 "P100" filters fitted, and 2 spares in case the first set gets clogged:

Also a pair of swimmers goggles to protect my eyes and a couple cotton balls and ear plugs to keep stuff out of my ears. A little water and a snack.

Strange times indeed.

I thought this part (of AP's latest terror wrapup) was interesting:

To illustrate the level of the intelligence, the official cited these examples of detail possible plotters had accumulated: midweek pedestrian traffic counts of 14 people per minute on each side of the street for a total of 28 people; that some explosives might not be hot enough to melt steel; and that the construction of some buildings might prevent them from falling down.

The official said he had not seen such extraordinary detail in his 24 years in intelligence work.

Italy should kick out all the muslims that are there. They can do because they are not controlled by the PC police as we are. My Great Grandparents were off the boat from Italy. This threat to Italy ticks me off as much as the threats to us here. I hope the Italians make the statement PC be damned and rid themsleves of the scourge plagueing their land. I have a feeling that should something happen in Italy there will be alot of dead muslims.

To: WestCoastGal; ChefKeith; All

I have some wonderful breaking news. Not terror related, but about one of our loyal TM posters.

It's been "blowin' in the wind" for awhile now, but today on the Nascar thread, ChefKeith asked our very own WestCoastGal to join him in holy matrimony. She said "Yes!!!!" A true FReeper romance. She will be moving to Texas in 43 days. And believe me, they are both counting them down.

Guess she'll have to change her FReeper name. Any suggestions?

Please join me in wishing them blessings and happiness for their future together..

This message was approved by WCG. Don't know about ChefKeith.

Today, of all days, we need some wonderful news....and new beginnings.

I bet you didn't know you were in the "match-making" business.

See my post #3559 on the TM.

Thanks for allowing this possibility.
