MISTRESS DISTRESS

MISTRESS DISTRESS

By HOWARD BREUER

July 19, 2004 -- EXCLUSIVE

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — With only a few days until Amber Frey takes the stand in Scott Peterson's double-murder trial, she has told her family that she's tired of being dragged through the gutter by people who know nothing about her.

Smut king Larry Flynt has insinuated she's a prostitute. Trial observers expect her to be portrayed by the Peterson defense as a harlot who pursues married men, and possibly as a participant in Laci Peterson's murder.

In an exclusive letter to The Post and Fox News Channel, Ron Frey says his 29-year-old daughter is proud of the choices that led to her having two children out of wedlock.

"The other day I asked her how she was holding up and she told me, 'It's so hard to hear myself criticized by people who don't know me, especially when they take issue with my being a single parent. But you can choose to remain a virgin until you're married, and then never be asked. Or you can have consensual sex and get pregnant. Then you have two choices: terminate the pregnancy, or thank God for the blessing. I've chosen to give thanks for the two wonderful children I love very much.' "

Frey wrote that his daughter's words "brought tears to my eyes. I hope everyone .............

Peterson Trial

Fabrications, admissibility discussed

REDWOOD CITY -- Lawyers in Scott Peterson's murder trial Wednesday argued over previous testimony that defense attorneys said shows a detective lied on the stand.

Judge Alfred A. Delucchi had planned to discuss a motion on that issue and other matters behind closed doors, but appeals from media lawyers resulted in a public debate.

In the process, Delucchi revealed in court -- without the jury present -- two topics at issue: whether a detective fabricated parts of his testimony and the admissibility of television interviews Peterson took part in before his arrest..............

Peterson trial resumes with questioning of detective

By BRIAN SKOLOFF

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Detective Henry "Dodge" Hendee returns to the witness stand Monday in Scott Peterson's murder trial as defense attorneys continue their attack on the investigation.

Attorney Mark Geragos has been picking apart the case as an exhaustive search for hard evidence that turned up nothing incriminating.

In a barrage of sarcastic questions last week, Geragos forced Hendee to acknowledge at nearly every turn that searches of San Francisco Bay yielded nothing to link Peterson to the killing of his pregnant wife, Laci........

Police misconduct alleged in Peterson trial

Defense is accusing police detective of lying on the stand

The Associated Press
July 19th, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

REDWOOD CITY -- Modesto police Detective Allen Brocchini declared early on he was going to catch Laci Peterson’s killer.

"I probably told that to everybody," Brocchini testified during Scott Peterson’s preliminary hearing. "My intent was to catch … whoever got Laci."

The case, defense attorneys suggested, became personal for Brocchini -- Laci Peterson and her fetus were dead and someone had to pay.

Defense attorneys claimed the detective even told friends of the couple he was going to "take Scott Peterson down."

Brocchini denied making the statement, but acknowledged he tried "planting the seeds of suspicion" with friends and suspected early on that Peterson did the deed.

Now, with Peterson’s double-murder trial entering its eighth week, Brocchini has become a flash point as defense attorneys try to sidetrack the case with attacks on Brocchini’s character. .........

Attorney ridicules theory that defendant made cement anchors

Peterson defense mocks cop's evidence
Attorney ridicules theory that defendant made cement anchors

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scott Peterson's defense attorney staged a dramatic courtroom demonstration Thursday to try to discredit prosecutors' contention that the fertilizer salesman molded cement anchors to carry his wife's body to the bottom of San Francisco Bay.

Holding a block of cement found in Peterson's boat and the plastic water pitcher that a detective had suggested was the mold for the weights, defense attorney Mark Geragos showed that the two didn't match -- the pitcher was easily larger than the weight, was shaped differently and had a dimple the concrete block lacked.

It was an awkward moment for police Detective Henry Dodge Hendee. He had testified Tuesday in the Redwood City courtroom about how police had found the pitcher with cement residue in it in the warehouse that Peterson used in Modesto, but he admitted Thursday that detectives had learned at some point that it wasn't the mold.

Some courtroom watchers said it was also a victory for Geragos in his effort to persuade jurors that Modesto police and Stanislaus County prosecutors focused solely on Scott .........

Scott to pin slay on lover

Scott to pin slay on lover

BY MARY PAPENFUSS
SPECIAL TO THE NEWS

Scott Peterson was posing as a rich bachelor when he took up with masseuse Amber Frey — who went to police after she learned her lover had a pregnant wife who was missing.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - Amber did it. That's what Scott Peterson's defense is expected to argue when prosecutors call their star witness in the double-murder trial: Peterson's mistress, Amber Frey.

Several legal observers believe defense attorney Mark Geragos will try to portray the young single mom as so desperate for a husband that she helped kill her rival, Scott Peterson's pregnant wife, Laci.

"Geragos has already tried to lay the foundation that Amber Frey was somehow involved in Laci Peterson's murder," said Dean Johnson, a former San Mateo County prosecutor who is following the trial.

Geragos has already grilled Frey's pal Shawn Sibley - who played matchmaker for the Modesto fertilizer salesman and Fresno masseuse - about when the women first learned Scott was married, and not the rich bachelor he pretended to be.........

Have you noticed that whenever something is "coming up" in this trial that will be damaging, the Defense always manages to dig up someone (ie, old boyfriend) in an attempt to discredit the coming testimony? I think that speaks for itself. Geragos is likely dreading Amber's testimony. Especially some of the gifts she received. To attempt to blame Amber as the murderer here is ludicrous.

No apology needed!
It sounds like you're correct on what Geragos should do. I just don't know. There's just SO much of Scotts lies and deceptions. For me, it's hard to pick just one! :)
I can't hardly wait for the closing argument to tie everything together.........right now Geragos is picking everything apart (which is what he's supposed to do) but, later, when it's all laid out, step by step, lie for lie, I'm sure the jury will see it all, crystal clear....

I never heard that, but I surmised as much.

We know who the guests were going to be. Clearly the problem had to do with Ron or his relatives.

I don't, however, think that Laci came right out and told her mother that that was why she didn't want to go. Because she was instead giving her mother various excuses, such as when she said, "But I haven't bought presents for them..."

We know that step-relationships are not always made in heaven. Overall, I think Ron Grantski has probably been a good stepfather, or else Sharon and he wouldn't have stayed together. Still, though, there would be the inevitable problems with the children: children in that position sometimes feel like they are being disloyal to their "real" father when they like their stepfather.

Judging by Brent's and Amy's testimony, I think the Rochas had their share of such problems, and I'm sure Laci and her siblings commiserated about it. I also think that Scott willingly joined in.

Scott seems to have gotten along particularly well with Brent. I think Scott had a natural timidity regarding Ron and other men of his age, and I think this, combined with Brent's probably jaundiced eye through which he viewed Ron, helped cement (oops) the bond btw Scott and Brent.

What I'm saying in 1000 words or more is, if Laci didn't want to spend Christmas Eve under the scrutiny of the Grantski family members, I think that went double for Scott.

Laci had already had to go to at least one, possibly two, Christmas events without Scott (who was busy catting around at the time.) I think she was having a hard time being sure Scott would go with her, and she didn't want to be embarrassed by having to make apologies for him--especially to people whom she already was not fond of.

CO, go to misfitting.com and read her most recent entry. She makes a lot of good points.

She has apparently gone over the Hendee transcripts very carefully. She said she noticed that almost all of the questioning by Geragos regarding Bay searches relates to searches AFTER THE BODIES WERE DISCOVERED.

Loretta (misfitting) seems to think that we still haven't necessarily heard all there is to hear about the searches BEFORE the body was found, especially the March search(es). She seems to be still considering the possibility that they DID see the bodies underwater before they were found.

Well said Wednesday. WHAT can Geragos really do about Scott Peterson's OWN voice saying incriminating things? NOTHING. He can try to say that he meant something else but the majority of folks are smarter than that. The timeline, the lies, the lies, the lies, the bodies washing up "right" where he was,the absolute TOTAL lack of emotion, attempting to sell her stuff almost immediately, I mean sorry, his behaviour just does NOT add up to innocent. I actually heard this morning because I have a day off, on one of the shows, Lisa Blooms, I think, is that the "press conferences" of Sharon Rocha talking about Laci going to a watery grave and the other one where she talks about getting sick to stomach as she allows herself to think about what must have happened to them. Laci begging for the life herself and her baby. I tell you those were power packed emotional statements. The Jury will clearly be emotionally affected by those statements.

It would not surprise me if Scott was refusing to go. He had, after all, left Laci to go alone to one or two other Christmas events that season.

I don't think either Laci or Scott were all that crazy about Ron and his relatives. I think maybe they realized what a strain it would be to have to keep up the "happy couple" routine all evening in the presence of people who were probably not the born-yesterday type. [Certainly Ron appears to be nobody's fool--it was he who first seems to have caught on that Scott was fooling around.]

So at first Scott would have been content, in that Laci agreed to avoid the Christmas Eve dinner. But then (perhaps) sentiment for her mother overcame Laci, and she "turned" on Scott and said they'd come.

And I do think that both Laci and Scott knew there were problems in their marriage (though Laci probably didn't know about Amber specifically.) I notice that when they were together in that last month, it seems to have been when they "had to do the family thing." Such as the trip to Carmel, and the dinner invitation to Sharon and Ron, and their visit to Sharon and Ron earlier in the month.

Other than that, when were they together looking happy, except once for the neighbors on Dec. 22? And I've heard that incident described as: Laci wanted some plants transplanted, and she was telling Scott where to dig the holes and place them. Doesn't sound like it was much fun for Scott.

CO, I don't think the press conferences done by Sharon will come in as evidence.

However, I think that Sharon's testimony was very good to show the jury just how devastating the murder of her daughter has been to the whole family.

I really admire Sharon for her dignity, strength and composure. Personally, I know I could NEVER be like that. I cannot understand how she got through the press conferences at all. How horrific for Sharon and her family to sit in court and hear exactly what Scott is accused of doing........and knowing there's more to come. My heart just breaks for them.

Maybe I heard that wrong Dev. In any event I just turned CC off - she has that sorry A$$ juror #5 on again. Who the heck cares what he thinks at this point? He hasn't been in the Courtroom listening to evidence for more than a month!! Catherine Crier is not really worth watching any more.

The exact date that the sss caught Laci was March 12th. She was still full with child according to the girl who is on the inside. I'm just waiting for that to be shown. I guess we won't see or hear of that until experts testify.

I agree. I doubt I could have pulled myself together as she did either. I'm sure she's done a lot of suffering in private. As she stated, her life will never be the same again.

How funny--just a few minutes ago I, also, tuned in to Crier, saw Justin's fat little face, and hit the mute button. His 15 minutes have LONNNNG been up. His opinion at this point is no more valuable than that of any other ditzy, naive guy on disability who is trying to eke out a few bucks by getting on TV.

Remember the story that Scott told Amber on the phone, "I didn't do it, but I know who did"?

Somewhere along the line, Geragos told his media helpers to nix that story. Now, they all act like that never happened.

But how do THEY know??

Where did that rather specific quote come from?

I read Loretta's site Dev. I am dying for them to get to the Scan operators testimony. Of course Geragos KNOWS what they show. My question is "HOW is he going to defuse the very obvious bombshell this will cause". If I were a Juror I would not get that sight out of my brain.
