Slim-Fast Sheds Whoopi Goldberg After Bush Riff

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Comedian Whoopi Goldberg will no longer appear in ads for diet aid maker Slim-Fast following her lewd riff on President Bush's name at a fund-raiser last week, the company said on Wednesday.

Florida-based Slim-Fast said it was "disappointed" in Goldberg's remarks at last Thursday's $7.5 million star-studded fund-raiser at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

"Ads featuring Ms. Goldberg will no longer be on the air," Slim-Fast General Manager Terry Olson said in a statement, adding that the company regrets that Goldberg's remarks offended some customers.

Republicans have expressed outrage over the fund-raiser for presumptive Democratic nominee John F. Kerry and his vice presidential running mate, John Edwards, in which entertainers lined up to skewer the president.

The New York Post said of Goldberg's appearance at the event: "Waving a bottle of wine, she fired off a stream of vulgar sexual wordplays on Bush's name in a riff about female genitalia."

A spokesperson for Goldberg declined immediate comment.

Slim-Fast is a unit of Anglo-Dutch food-to-detergent group Unilever Plc .

Now that Whoopi has joined the ranks of the unemployed, maybe Hitlery will lend her a pantsuit....

I think so too. I sent mine in and I meant it. They can forget me as a customer.

Statement from Terry Olson, Slim-Fast, General Manager and Vice President of Marketing
Wednesday July 14, 4:37 pm ET

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida, July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- We at Slim-Fast trust the public understands that the way in which Whoopi Goldberg chose to express her own personal beliefs at the recent fundraiser at Radio City Music Hall does not reflect the views and values of Slim-Fast. Slim-Fast selected Whoopi Goldberg as its spokesperson because of her commitment to losing weight, which we applaud. We are disappointed by the manner in which Ms. Goldberg chose to express herself and sincerely regret that her recent remarks offended some of our consumers. Ads featuring Ms. Goldberg will no longer be on the air.

I don't know, but a little poking around revealed that the site hosting that picture is probably a little disturbing. It's a photographer's site, and she also has images from a Miss Gay parade or something. I bailed quickly before I could see what that was about.

Since Slim-Fast did fire her now people are going to want to see why she was fired.

Good point.

My distaste with Mz. Goldberg is finally complete. I remember first seeing her on some HBO special back in the mid 80's. Everyone in the entertainment industry was gushing about her, but I just couldn't see it. OK, she had a goofy look, but she was as funny as a bag of wet mice.

It wasn't 'til a few years later that I learned about political correctness and realized that her whole "career" was based on this flimsiest of foundations.

Now Whoopsie finds herself at her day of reckoning. She made a deal with the devil when she accepted stardom without talent and now it's time to give the devil his due. So long, Whoopsie--too bad we knew ye.

Maybe now the overpaid, under-brained Hollywood crew whose careers have swooned to the "spokesperson" level will start to realize they may pay a price for "speaking out".

And maybe American businesses will start to figure out that wacky leftist "entertainers" may not be the best individuals to hawk their products.

Well, I can hope.

Didn't say she was fired, just that ads with her would no longer be appearing.

Can you say: "Morals Clause" ?

Her statements could be considered slander. .
