Hey, how about we get all Gov't OUT of the marriage business and keep it as part of religions where it belongs. I was extremely annoyed that I had to get a liscense or permission from some Gov't stooge to get married. I don't see what marriage has to do with the Gov't and/or the Constitution.

Two words: Government Benefits.

That is the heart of the debate, especially since benefits are paid with tax dollars, which means those who disagree with gay marriage will nevertheless be forced to support it by their taxes.

No one really cares what two gay people want to do to each other, or what they want to call their relationship, as long as we aren't forced to subsidize it.

how are you going to keep it out of the public schools? once gay marriage is as legal as the marriages we have today, how are you going to stop gay activitists and the courts from forcing public schools to adopt this as part of the curriculum? can you imagine taking young children, who have not formed their own sense of reality on this topic due to their age and maturity level - from being taught that Eddie marrying Bobby is the same as Eddie marrying Susie?

The first principle of the State is to promote the common good. Since all members of society pass through the institution of the family, the State has a duty to promote the health of families and marriage.

"government out of the marriage business..."

Totally agree. I've been saying that for years.

BRAVO - I agree completely

"I was extremely annoyed that I had to get a liscense or permission from some Gov't stooge to get married"

Of course you didn't have to get the government endorsed license if you didn't want to, but then you would not be entitled to the legal benefits of marriage (medical decision making, employee spouse benefits etc.)

Follow the money. This is all about getting federal money - SS, medicare, etc - which means that they want YOUR money.
