My mother was a stone alcoholic. She could suck a 16 oz beer for the whole day. Schlitz packaged that in those days- the 50's. None of my schoolmates believed that she had a problem because "she doesn't drink that much".
The drinking finally killed her. She did such a good job of hiding her drinking that her workplace friends didn't think she drank when we were conversing at the funeral home. They argued with me. I had known her all of my life-25 years, and they had known her 3 years.
She held a job all of her adult life, and got excellent grades in her 4 years at the University of Wisconsin---a rare enough treat for a woman born in 1906. She wasted her potential and created a life for us kids that was a nightmare. There are worse stories, I know, but this was MY nightmare. I still shy away from people who drink, even on a casual friend level. I for one am VERY GLAD this guy is off the roads.

The doctor probably was doing what s/he thought was a good thing.
But, if this event had occurred in some other states (like CA) and Emerich
found a good lawyer...lawsuit time if the doctor couldn't make a really good
case that drinking a six-pack in the evening incapacitated the driver
when he took the wheel the next morning.

I see both sides of this situation.
But I can also see a lot of people in Penn. with drinking problems
clamming up for good when talking to their doctors...and not getting help.

The man has a clean driving record. Sounds like you want him punished for being a sinful drinker, not an incompetent driver.

He'll be the last one it happens to. Nobody in their right mind will tell their Docs anything from now on in PA.

You must have a very short list of acquantainces. I can only think of three people I know who are total abstainers from alcohol.

16 ounces would last me about half an inning, down here.

Anyone's liver can get rid of that much a day and have plenty of time left to do everything else a liver needs to do. In fact it's about the amount that reduces your heart attack and stroke risk. It's probably better for you than being a teetotaller if you can indeed limit yourself to just one a day.

I'm very sorry that your personal experience with alcoholism has clouded your judgment this much. (Did you really mean to say ONE 16 oz. beer a day?)

First, this guy says he works at home and doesn't drink and drive.

Second, you shy away from casual or social drinkers?
