You've identified the real problem -- Ken and John have not.
Cox has a safe district. The talk show guys are wasting their time with him. Drier however has a more marginal district, and is chairman of the rules committee. He will be their target. But it will only have traction if the Dem is tougher on illegals, which is unlikely.
it's interesting they "target" Republicans rather than DemoncRATs - are they immune from John & Ken's condescencion?
I agree. This strategy MIGHT make sense if Dreier were to lose to a Democrat who is tough on illegals (although I personally think it would be better to support such a rare Democrat against the likes of Baca). Then, PERHAPS, the Republican leadership might stop and focus more on the illegal immigrant problem. But if your typical liberal Rat beats Dreier, then the Republican leadership is more likely to go further to the left in order to appeal to those voters.
Normally I'd agree with you 100% and hate people who waste their vote on Losertarian or Constipation parties, however KFI is the most listened to talk show in SoCal so this is organized, more importantly, the White House is WELL aware of this situation even before today, they have actually been calling their station to take down the addresses in an "uncle" cry that fell flat. They dispatched Stephen Moore from the Club For Growth to write a blatently poorly timed "rah rah" for Bush's Guest Worker proposal yesterday, if Dreier loses there will be no misreading the tea leaves.
Now add to it that this is being done for the soul purpose of protesting? Believe me even Rove won't be able to screw this one up.
Apparently they are immune from getting enough GOP votes to beat them. Been there, done that.
Aw geeze... Here comes that tired ol tirade again!!! The battle cry of the moderate/liberal/countryclubbers who'll excuse any (R) for not acting like they give a damn for righteous conservatism and keep this nation from being over-run by criminals, terrorists, latinliberalvoters, central/S. American rip-off artists, Shining Path terrorists from Peru, etc., etc., yada, yada, yada...
I'm for ANYTHING that destroys the grip that Firestone, Parsky & Rove, Inc. has over the Republican Party in this state, so I can feel comfortable in rejoing the Grand ol Party of REAGAN!!!
Here's what he said, while Governor on Sept. 7,1973:"One legislator accused me of having a 19th century attitude on law and order. That is a totally false charge. I have an 18th century attitude. That is when the Founding Fathers made it clear that the safety of law abiding citizens should be one of government's primary concerns." (italic emphasis added by the Waspman)
Well isn't this just a comical flip flopping of us? I used to hate PBJ as a paranoid vote spliter, now I'm the one talking heresy against the Grand Old Party?
In time I learned he was actually right about the threat of illegal immigration all along, which is hard to admit.
One thing hasn't changed between us, I am still optimistic, while you admit to being pessmistic. Look at it this way, the worst thing that comes of this is that Dreier has to kiss our butt and lie to us in order to get our votes.
The GOP has taken us for granted for too long, there needs to be a whole lot more kissing our butts and lying to us going on here!
I'm sorry, but it doesn't make sense. If the people will abandon the conservative Republican incumbent and vote for a liberal Democrat, what in the world makes anyone think they will then turn around the next time and go for a conservative, anti-illegals Republican?
You caught that too? That jumped off the page from me also, I'd like to hear a single better idea for motivating our "so called" representatives in Washington to do the will of the people.
You can rant all you want, it's true. They ARE advocating the election of Democrats. They aren't talking about replacing the Republicans they don't like with Republicans who will do what they want. No, the Republicans would be replaced with Democrats.
I'm for ANYTHING that destroys the grip that Firestone, Parsky & Rove, Inc. has over the Republican Party in this state, so I can feel comfortable in rejoing the Grand ol Party of REAGAN!!!
Why of course. But no outrage, not a PEEP from you or John or Ken or any of you other Democrat-supporters, about Feinstein or Boxer or Joe Baca. Sure, Karl Rove is evil, and Terry McAuliffe just happens to be a SOCIALIST ENEMY OF THE UNITED STATES. Why would you want him to have more power?
By the way, what is it Reagan said about the 11th commandment? Since we're quoting Reagan and all, surely you remember that one? "Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican"
The problem with people like John and Ken and all of their fellow kool-aid drinkers is they REFUSE to go after the Democrats. It is the Democrats who are the real enemy. It's especially telling in light of the Asa Hutchinson matter. It was the DEMOCRAT representative from California who pressured Hutchinson in the first place, not David Dreier. WHY DO YOU JUST LET THAT GO?
Why are you so afraid to go after the Democrats? Instead, you try to put more of them in power. How is that conservative? You think Ronald Reagan would agree with that?
Doesn't surprise me in the least, if I lived in PA or was still in my home state I would have a tin ear to the earthquake on the ground here in SoCal. You simply have no idea how radically the culture and number or Mexicans has increased in such a short time. Of a state population of 35 mil, there are aproximately 10 mil illegals. 187 passed to stop the entitlements to illegals, and was held up in corrupt courts, the illegal drivers license bill is going to get a 2nd life from the GOP gov, we waste over 5 bil a year towards illegal and everything is getting worse, fast, and not only are the Republicans not banging on desks as they should, they are complicit.
I can't begin to describe the frustration felt here by so many I talk to, the outrage, the cynicism. Its a powder keg really, and it is going to blow up in that phoney Dreier's face.
If the people will abandon the conservative Republican incumbent and vote for a liberal Democrat, what in the world makes anyone think they will then turn around the next time and go for a conservative, anti-illegals Republican?
Because it is widely stated beforehand that actual GOP voters will be voting Dem, that is the clever little twist, their own base is fighting them, and they will come home because its just a protest. I'm not going to walk out of the voting booth and magically forget how wrong liberal policy is.
The point here is this, whether it be talking about talk radio or just the growing conservative electorate "we brought you into this world, and we can take you out."
Oh well geeze, I can think of one. If "the will of the people" is to do something about the illegal immigrant problem (and I question just how strong this will is in light of the people Californians keep electing to represent them), then how about getting someone elected who will, oh I don't know, DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT PROBLEM?
If a liberal Democrat is elected, then the voters will have spoken. They will have spoken up in favor of LIBERAL DEMOCRATS.
Oh, and here comes that old canard. As an outsider, I see you have a serious illegal immigrant problem. I hear you saying that Californians really care about this. But if they did, WHY DON'T THEY ELECT PEOPLE WHO WILL DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT? Seems to me that if they keep electing liberal Democrats (and this is what John and Ken are advocating), then they obviously don't feel too strongly about the problem. In fact, I wonder how strongly John and Ken feel about it, since they REFUSE to go to the root of the problem in California, the Democrats. I can even name a specific Democrat who is causing this immediate problem. JOE BACA
Because it is widely stated beforehand that actual GOP voters will be voting Dem, that is the clever little twist, their own base is fighting them, and they will come home because its just a protest.
Why oh why can't you just devote your energies to unseating Joe Baca? Diane Feinstein? Barbara Boxer? Nearly the entire California congress? If they could get Grey Davis, how come they're gonna give up now? The Democrats are like the elephant in the living room over there.
By the way, when has this strategy ever been tried before and it actually worked? Conservatives, voting for liberals and giving the liberals more power, in an effort to show their party that what they REALLY want is someone more conservative than they currently have.
Also, i'd like to add one thing. I may be in Pennsylvania but David Dreier is a member of the United States Congress, and what he does effects me. I'm someone who believes we need more conservatives in Congress. So it is galling to me that people actually want to replace a conservative like Dreier with a liberal Democrat. Personally, I'd much rather Californians get rid of scum like Joe Baca.
I heard some of that today and it is idiotic.
I guess they feel the Republicans should know better and are turning a blind eye, so they will unseat some till they tale notice.
Why not unseat a democrat over this issue and make it a step in the right direction?
Because the Republicans are not useless like the Democrats, we are going to remove the useful Republican over the useless Democrat!!!
That is some kind of reverse logic they have going there.
John and Ken are shallow dopes, populist radio guys who say that the Iraq effort was useless. I turned them off long ago.
Their uninformed politics is usually standard liberal drivel. They can be counted on for only one thing: they'll take the position that fans the emotions of the audience. No idiological center, no consistency.
Blaming and targeting Republicans on THIS issue, when they are defensively reacting to the screeching liberal outrage overa simple illegals sweep... that proves the point. Their protests are ill-conceived.
Pushing for Republicans to get out of office. My guess you are a Libertarian?
Replace a Republican with a liberal Democrat? What the hell's the matter with you?
John and Ken aren't going to change an election anyway. Unless you're Rush Limbaugh, you don't affect elections.
Actually John and Ken do have some impact locally, in the Los Angeles ring media market. But not enough to take out Drier, even if they beat him to death. Also, Drier is too supple and articulate, and he is articulate, to just sit there like a deer in headlights.
