Los Angeles Radio Station KFI's John and Ken Target Repub. Congressmembers on Illegal Alien Issue
KFI AM640, Los Angeles, John and Ken Show | July 12, 2004

Posted on 07/12/2004 6:52:50 PM PDT by John Jorsett

I've been listening to KFI radio this afternoon. KFI radio talk jocks John and Ken are frustrated at the Republican cave-in on the illegal alien sweeps (Asa Hutchinson of the Department of Homeland Security bowed to pressure and called off the sweeps that were rounding up illegals in Southern California). Getting no useful responses regarding support for the sweeps from the Republican members of Congress who represent Southern California districts, J&K have decided that the best way to focus their minds is to target one of them for electoral extinction. They're holding an on-air discussion with their listeners as to who it should be. Two names that are being bandied about are Chris Cox and David Drier. When the selection is made, they plan to hammer their target daily, while promoting his/her opponent, up until the election. They've reminded their listeners of the campaign they waged against a pedophile judge who was up for voter confirmation. By the time their campaign started, it was too late to simply have voters vote against confirmaition, so they pushed a write-in campaign for an opponent. They attacked the judge every day for months and ended up getting an amazing 250,000 write-in signatures for the opponent, ending the judge's career on the bench. The power of their program might be enough to do the same for their congressional target.

Without Hunter, there wouldn't be a fence on the border.

You bet! But the California "leftistlature", through redistricting, removed a lot of his district giving it to a liberal coward who panders to Vicente Fox while wearing kneepads.

Do they have any plans to target the Democrat leadership" You know, guys like Baca who brought up the "racial profiling" bogeyman which is what caused Asa Hutchinson to "reconsider" in the first place?

Democrats, always getting a free ride. Instead, conservatives eat their own. Do you EVER see the left doing this?

Their idea is to try to get Republicans to act more like Republicans on immigration issues. I agree that running them out of office will not help, but putting pressure on them may make them see the light that people are fed up with the inaction of the Federal government and republican controlled congress to protect the borders.

in the last few years Drier hasn't been any better than a democrat, he needs to be run out of office.

I knew him 30 years ago when he wsa a conservative but he's turned around completely.

Drier had an ACU rating of 84% in 2002 and an ACU of 83% in 2003.

The best Democrat congressman in California usually comes in with an ACU rating of around 30. Most are in the teens and lower.

Since when is 30% near 84%? You sound like a product of the public school system -- quote..unquote.

I'm just wondering what the story is behind these sweeps.I've heard that they hadn't done these interior sweeps in years. Either this was some immigration police that decided out of frustration to do these sweeps(their job) to make a point. Or did Bush have this done to make a point to Fox what could be done if he wanted. Or were these token sweeps designed to placate the pubs out here that back fired and woke up a sleeping PO giant. I don't think they realize how boiled over so many of us are. When I don't get a straight story it makes me wonder.

This is one of the most brilliant things, I wrote to them just now, that they had done. I didn't think they could top the direct questioning of Hutchinson on whether the sweeps would be restarted, but just the threat of this is going to change things. Actually getting one of these safe guys' career's finished is going to move mountains with the Karl Roves of the party.

Another aspect is to have it be a week long search for which candidate, make 5 of them sweat it out, in at the end, pick David Dreier.

He's the perfect sacraficial lamb, http://grades.betterimmigration.com/testgrades.php3?District=CA26&VIPID=96

and I will never, ever forgive him for jumping on the Arnold bandwagon so early. I knew (R)nold was going to coopt Davis' deferred payment ideas, and that's exactly what's he's doing and Dreier knew he would. Payback's a b*tch.

To realistically think that it would be possible politically or practically to deport 10 to 15 million illegals currently in the country is foolish. It ain't gonna happen.

Start prosecuting the employers. The illegals will take themselves home.

I hear what you are saying on this, but you need to listen to the show, you simply aren't thinking long term on all this. I'm sure you think Dreier is doing a great job, I happen to disagree, since my rep, nerdy Brad Sherman actually has a slightly better record on immigration than the conservative Republican Dreier, but lets say for the sake of arguement that Dreier is awesome, that he has Dana Rohrabacher numbers, none of them is actually being active on the subject, or "proactive" as marketers say these days. No one is giving speeches, pressuring Hutchinson (yet) or introducing controversial legislation.

Things are not working.

Its time for something drastic, something novel, and this plan is simplistic, but brilliant. I'm not even a big fan or theirs because they are weak on social issues, but give credit where it is due. The recall flops without their efforts, over a million of the signatures came from "liberal" SoCal and LA County voted 60% for a Republican in that election.

But how does getting someone way way worse help? It doesn't. But first the House is going to remain Republican no matter what, secondly another passive liberal is not going to affect the matter, certainly not one elected because of this issue as all the Dems calling the show to whore themselves out proves they would know, but 3rd, and this is the most important, with the passive Republican representation on the issue being there now- the loss of it is negligable at best, and the thought of a star losing in a heavy GOP uber safe district will send panic attacks down Karl Rove's "brilliant" spine. Merely the threat of this will get us what we deserve, and if the Admin still refuses to compromise with the Americans, more drastic measures will be taken.

(R)nold Campaign Manager Dreier cleverly used Talk Radio to convince conservatives they had no other choice, well the worm of that Mexican tequilla has literally turned for the establishment Republican...

I appreciate your thoughtful response and I don't want to change your enthusiasm for trying to change the immigration status quo.

So I won't give you my pessimistic response.

BTW, the last time I was optimistic about immigration reform, it was 1992 and I was a PJB supporter.

Good luck.

ARGHHHH. No, all it will accomplish is getting someone who is much more liberal elected. Going after the Republicans when it is the DEMOCRATS that you keep re-electing who are causing the problems. Rep. David Dreier has an ACU rating of 92, but let's throw HIM out, yes. But not Boxer. Not Feinstein. Not ACU lifetime rating of 20 Rep. Joe Baca. Let THEM sit pretty, with nary a criticism thrown their way.

Try THIS on for size. While you're hurling epithets at Rove and Hutchinson, perhaps you'd like to spare a little bit of pressure for Joe Baca. Bombard HIS office day and night. After all, he's the one who called for the sweeps to be halted. Not Dreier. Put some pressure on Baca, maybe you'll relieve some of the pressure on Hutchinson so he can do his job. Why can't BACA be the freaking "sacrificial lamb"???

On the one hand you have Asa Hutchinson, who has to worry about illegal immigration for the whole country. Yes, he should listen to the people, but this isn't a democracy. The elected representatives are the ones he has to deal with. So California is a mess when it comes to illegal immigration. Perhaps California should try to clean up its own mess. Starting with the elected representatives. But which ones do you go after first? NOT the elected representatives who actively support illegal immigration and who threaten Asa Hutchinson when he tries to do his job. No, instead of venting your righteous anger at THEM, you know, the people YOU'RE actually responsible for, you go ballistic on Asa Hutchinson and on the representatives who are on your side.

STOP EATING YOUR OWN

As a vociferous defender of John's interview with Hutchinson last week, I think this is a BAD idea.

First of all, they're going to cool down on this one because they don't like to align themselves with hopeless issues. For example, while they've given many interviews to the guy who's trying to get a new Prop 187 on the ballot, they were unwilling to really pump it because they didn't want to be associated with a prop that didn't have momentum behind it.

The reason they will abandon this idea is that Cox and Drier are safe. Cox more than any. His district isn't gonna vote for a Democrat at all -- I say this as a former resident of his district. Furthermore, the district includes some extremely wealthy areas with folks that aren't about to tote pitchforks around in their Escalades looking for a populist issue to rage about.

Drier's area is a little more mixed and his elections have been closer than Cox'. However, he had been a friend of the show and has been a guest on the John and Ken show frequently, especially during the Recall election since he was an adviser to the Schwarzenegger campaign.

This one isn't getting off the ground. They're better off getting people to call Baca's office repeatedly.

the thought of a star losing TO A LIBERAL WHO SUPPORTS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION in a heavy GOP uber safe district will send panic attacks down Karl Rove's "brilliant" spine

I added a few words. I think all Karl Rove will do is think, "hmm, we need to appeal more to the people that voted for the winner". And what will you get? More liberal Republicans next time around.

The Democrats are electing Democrats. The GOP should not be electing Democrats. The GOP has to justify our favor by doing the right thing.

It seems to me that so-called conservatives in this thread are advocating the election of Democrats.

Wonder why that is?

That's what makes this issue so eternally frustrating. Apparently, John and Ken take credit for recalling ultra-liberal Grey Davis. Yet they say there is nothing they can do about getting rid of Joe Baca and his ilk? No, instead, they're gonna get rid of David Dreier or another conservative.
