Cheney's F-Word Quote Lives on T-Shirts and Thongs

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Your dog, your toddler, your car and your computer can now sport the same pungent phrase -- suggesting an anatomically unlikely sex act -- uttered in a moment of pique by Vice President Dick Cheney.

Within weeks of Cheney's angry suggestion to U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy to "go f--- yourself" on June 22, an online cottage industry quoting the vice president has sprung up at Cafepress.com, a Web site offering customized merchandise.

"I thought it was funny," said Sean Bonner, a Los Angeles art gallery owner who designed a range of products with the legend, "'Go f--- yourself' - Vice President, Dick Cheney."

"I kind of wanted a shirt like that and the best way to do it would be to make it myself," Bonner said by telephone.

Bonner's section of the Cafepress site -- www.cafepress.com/vpquote -- offers regular T-shirts, thongs, creeper outfits for toddlers and infants, dog T-shirts, computer mouse pads, car stickers and trucker hats.

After a mention in The Washington Post on Friday, this collection went from getting few hits to being one of the top four "shops" on the site, a spokesman for Cafepress said.

Cafepress appears to be VERY anti-Bush/Cheney.

Just don't expect them to highlight the anti-kerry stuff the way they highlight the anti-bush stuff.

right on.

I ordered a few for my friends too and a couple lighters. The people at the company who make the shirts are super nice.

Best,

I think the media is promoting this, not cafepress. Cafepress just lets people design and sell t-shirts and stuff and doesn't get in the way unless you break a copyright law. If you want more pro-W stuff on there, go make some.

Here is one I like:

I wish he hadn't said it, but I do think the media could spend time on other things! We're all adults here, it's not like he said it to little kids, he said it to a grown man in response to being provoked!

That's 'cause "arty-fart" types tend to be more liberal, in general (I'm a musician - with your handle, I'd guess you should know that, too!) But there are a minority of decent conservative shops there, as well. Type "anti-kerry" in their search engine, and you find stuff like this.

Thumbin' through the Ten Commandments...lookin' for the one that says, "Thou shalt not say, "Go F Yourself" to a pig.

Point taken. But, in the New Testament, all of the commandments -- including the Ten -- were summarized (if not replaced) by the Two.

Mr. Cheney was clearly in violation of the second of the Two. (I, too, break it countless times every day, though never quite so publicly.)

Maybe Cheney WOULD want others to treat him that way!

LOL

I'm not casting any stones in this arena, either.

For the one mentioned in this article, yes its the media. But go to the cafepress homepage sometime. Your chances of seeing them spotlight a pro-bush store is low, while your chances of an anti-bush store or an alternative lifestyle store, are very high. As an example, I just went to their homepage and found these guys highlighted: http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/img/home_feature_0.jpg

Cafepress appears to be VERY anti-Bush/Cheney.

After poking around there, there is quite a bit of anti-Kerry stuff as well. Apparently you just e-mail your slogan/pictures, and they will print them on mugs, mousepads, t-shirts, etc. and you can send the links to family/friends who can also buy them.

Some of the Kerry/Fonda stuff is funny. There's even some Iraqi Information Minister stuff there (seems like such a long time ago).

Basically a high-tech t-shirt shop. Now why didn't I think of that idea about five or six years ago...
