You cannot understand operation if you do not know how it progressed through generations.
You do know - not simply because of the year of birth but because you know the generations. You know the circumstances, the technologies, the politics, the cultures and the previous generations.
You know where we are because you know where we were and that is divided by generations. Each generation making its mark on the progression of the society.
