At least we are trying to do something here. We read, we learn, we discuss, we report, whatever it takes, we are doing the best we can. But how many of us are there? How many others are doing nothing? How many terrorists are there? How many explosions will there be? How many more dead will there be? ...WE are yelling and screaming watch out, do something, don't ignore all these things, stop the judges and lawyers from protecting the bad guys. Help!!! PC cr@p will get us all killed. </rant BBL

WCG, I sometimes think we are playing the role of Cassandra, from Greek mythology, here.

No one listened to Cassandra when she tried to warn of dangers to come. No one is listening to us either. We're a whole bunch of Cassandras begging for someone to listen, but no one is.

"In one memorable example, Cassandra announced the dire consequences of the Trojans accepting the infamous Wooden Horse from their Greek opponents. But as Apollo made certain, no one believed Cassandra when she warned her companions about the future. And this, in the end, was to be Cassandra's tragic fate."

Ok. I suppose I should pack up my little toys and go home. Game over.

Wait... Defiance in the face of defeat is an American Tradition!

It's always proper to give the finger to the firing squad.

Anyway, I'm not going to be pessimistic about it. We are at least informing each other, if nothing else. A little reassurance would be nice, but I'd rather TPTB worry about the goblins and not my emotional fortitude.

Red Cross Issues Urgent Call for Blood Donations

The Associated Press
Published: Jul 15, 2004

WASHINGTON (AP) - The American Red Cross is issuing an urgent call for blood donations, saying parts of the country have less than a day's supply and some hospitals are postponing elective surgeries to conserve.

People with Type O-negative blood, the universal blood type, are particularly needed, but the Red Cross urged anyone who's eligible to donate: people in good health age 17 or older, who weight at least 110 pounds.

Summertime blood shortfalls are common, as regular donors go on vacation. The Red Cross calls this year's shortage particularly bad, reporting less than 46,000 units of blood on shelves Thursday. Anything below 60,000 units is considered a critical shortage; an optimal inventory is 100,000.

Two-thirds of Red Cross regions report having less than a day's supply of O-negative blood, said spokeswoman Stephanie Millian.

The Northeast seems particularly hard-hit, and the Red Cross had advised hospitals in some states to postpone non-emergency Type O transfusions as a result, she said.

The Red Cross supplies about half the nation's blood.

America's Blood Centers, which supplies the other half, says 20 percent of its reporting centers have a day's supply of blood or less. It hasn't yet issued a nationwide donor appeal, saying its supplies are creeping up slowly since the July 4th holiday.

To donate: Contact the Red Cross at 1-800-GIVE-LIFE or http://www.givelife.org, or America's Blood Centers at 1-888-USBLOOD or http://www.americasblood.org.

I sure wish someone with some connections to TPTB had been following this thread from the start...
