What most racists really object to is his amnesty proposals, which have absolutely nothing to do with border patrols.

Half of my family are Latino. All of us fervently reject any proposals for amnesty for illegal immigrants. It is an absolute slap in the face for those of our family who worked so hard to become legally citizens and residents here. All the years of waiting, all the lawyers fees, all of the dissappointment and heartbreak of seperation and finally the payoff of reunity as a family, BUT BY THE LAW.

All of this would have been a waste of time. It is a despicable insult.

It's not a racist thing obviously, it's a "respect" thing. Lack of respect for our laws isn't a great way to start as a citizen. I've seen dirt poor people come here and do it legally, all the way to citizenship. Why are illegals now "too good" to obey the law? If our laws aren't good enough for them, then why are they here to begin with? Better life? Not for long with their attitude.

Wow, in continuing the thread, I'm seeing flame wars go all over the place! My post was not intended as a flame. Just a statement of some strong family feelings I share but also have personally witnessed. So "don't nobody" feel like they're being flamed!

"It's not a racist thing obviously, it's a "respect" thing."

The immigration issue is very complex and there is lots of room for men of good will to disagree over many aspects and for many disparate reasons.

The fact that you are not motivated by racism does not negate the fact that others are. Have you not heard the Buchaneers rail against Hispanics. "They dilute our culture, their dirty, dishonest, abuse the welfare system, steal American jobs, breed like rabbits, etc...." ALL Hispanic immigrants "dilute our culture, take jobs, breed, are drugies, dirty..." etc., not just the ones out of status. This is racism; it has nothing to do with fairness

The Buchaneers, and other third party imitators are posting the Hispanic hate threads for the sole purpose of demobilizing the Bush base in order to help Kerry.

yessir, I shake the hand of a new immigrant that struggles with words and money, etc., but is working a 14 hour day with his sister running a dairy mart...and they didn't sneak in, either...
