If you don't recall any condemnation of Santorum you must have been asleep for at least a week.

No way. I am a long time Brave fan and can tell you Georgians love this guy. Last 4th of July, we took the kids to a Brave game where Smoltz came in for the ninth as the closer. The sold-out crowd went crazy. It was like a reenactment of the scene from the movie "Major League" when "Wild Thing" came out to pitch.
Smoltz is well-known for his deep Christian beliefs. In fact he was so upset about the Christian school his kids were attending changing the curriculum to minimize teaching religion he led a revolt and started a brand new school. Jeff Foxworthy is his partner in this school.
Smoltz lives in my area and he is very committed to the community. Two weeks ago he had a baseball camp for youngsters in the area.
Great guy. Let them try and smear him.

Unfortunately major league sports havent come around to mainstream thinking, Pierce said, adding that the players comments were induced by testosterone and unfounded fear.
Got news for you, according to polls it the pro gay marriage position isn't mainstream.
Smoltz is, and any American is welcome to his opinion. Good for him. About time to stop letting the minority dictate thought and position.

Hate to break it to ya, Peirce, but Smoltz DOES reflect mainstream America! Most think homosexuality is unnatural behavior.
And it has nothing to do with 'fear." I am not afraid of homosexuals. I am disgusted by them.

"Gay Nights" at Turner field where Gays are admitted at reduced costs. I live in Atlanta, and and I've never heard of Braves "Gay Nights". You sure you're not referring to this block ticket sale story from 2001?

Smoltz is 37 and a millionaire many times over. He's impervious to any co-ordinated career or economic backlash for straying from the strictly enforced boundaries of political correctness. It's a beautiful thang.

Another reason for you to start liking the Braves again...

Yeah, I remember when Barry Sanders tithed his signing bonus. The reporters who interviewed him couldn't believe he gave 10% to his church. He said something like "It's called a tithe. It's in the Bible." They still didn't get it.
At my church about 10 years ago we had a kid drafted into the major leagues in the first round. He is the son of a pastor and is quite devout. The church was able to pay off a few debts with the kid's signing bonus tithe.

"Even my liberal journalist daughter hates it in Atlanta. I never thought I would see the day."
I read somewhere that a preacher said a long time ago that if God didn't destroy Atlanta, he owed Sodom and Gomorrah an apology.

what he said wasnt actually offensive. Now if he said "i hope all fags get AIDS and go to hell" that would pretty offensive.

Unlike the BRAVO network, mainstream America is not pro-homo.
To: Leroy S. Mort
Yes, that's it. A Turner stadium full of Gays. Thanks for the details.

Unfortunately major league sports havent come around to mainstream thinking, Okay, so "gay marriage" is now "mainstream thinking"? I don't think so.
