That makes sense. The old creep is only trying to win over votes. But of course, it doesn't make sense for him to be against abortion when he voted for partial-birth abortion.
Just a thought, but those who strive to the uttermost for so-called "separation" of church and state are both anti-church (anti-community) and anti-state. They wish to keep church and state "separate", the better to dismember each principle separately. It's not entirely clear that church and state are meant to be fully separate; there being a Christian humanist tradition which maintains both church and state under its wings, in separate activities perhaps though not separate dimensions.
