Yup. I try to remember that our government would declare the speed limit "classified" if they thought they could get away with it. I really think that we should "open source" intelligence information for public analysis and consumption in cases where no one is jeopardized.

I agree with the ridiculous urge for government to classify stuff. On the other hand, there are people who are absolutely careless with very sensitive classfied data. The Dutchman in charge of the server for the SHAPE Nuclear Planning System headed to lunch at the SHAPE cafeteria with a backup 8mm tape in his pocket. The data was COSMIC TOP SECRET ATOMAL. When I challenged him on the topic, he just grinned and reminded me that HE was the security officer too. It was definitely unsettling to see such a nonchalant attitude from a NATO civilian employee.

It may have been a prideful response to getting caught being absent minded. I've shown up at work with slippers on my feet.

Even so, protocols exist for a reason, and should be at the top of everyone's priority list. There's no room for error. Imagine if someone from DTI in Arlington had a goblin microscope up their butt and did something like that. All it takes is once.
