FBI urges vigilance for July 4

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A constant stream of intelligence indicating that al Qaeda wants to strike the United States this summer or fall has led federal officials to urge increased vigilance during the Independence Day weekend, but there is no specific threat of an attack timed to the holiday.

Davey this is a good story, it appears to be from 2001, but is interesting.

About the suitcases, I seem to recall one or two in Calif and the one in Conn. In or near the town that President Bush was expected to be in, the same week.

Wasn't the one in Conn, the one that was left leaning on the off duty policeman's car?

CYPRUS POLICE ARREST 10 PAKISTANI STUDENTS SUSPECTED OF LINKS TO AL-QAIDA

NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) - Police have arrested 10 Pakistani students suspected of belonging to an al-Qaida network on this Mediterranean island, police and media said Friday.

Cypriot Interior Minister Andreas Christou said on state-run radio that the students were awaiting deportation. He refused to comment on the al-Qaida suspicions, saying only "their arrests are connected to security considerations."

The arrests followed reports from foreign security organizations that the students were linked to Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida network, police officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

I’m about to check off for a few hours, so I’m going to try to summarize the key items brought out recently so that we can all be clear about what may occur and perhaps help us keep focus.

1. If AQ threats bear out - Italy and England will get hit 1st, then US.
2. Three month truce period for Europe ends Jul 11-15 depending on the calendar system used.
3. The threat is for something big, devistating to hit US.
4. Gov't offical travel plans have been altered.
5. Security has been heightened in specific cities - NYC, Philly, Seattle, LA
6. The fleet and F117s are deployed.
7. Islamist chatter on the 'net warns of getting to safe areas, 30 day supplies of food/water.
8. Trains and buses searched
9. Seaports and those many crossing over our borders in the news.
10. Dept of Homeland Scty has held a briefing to the public as well as to Congress. Sen Dachel says that the report (classified) is very serious.

I am elevating my alert status to orange this weekend based upon the above. And I’m not one for tinfoil.

Sometime in the wee hours of the night, on a radio talk show, a man was talking about how easy it was to get to the U.S. via water from Canada.

We have a member who has posted about going to dinner using the boat and not been stopped.

there was a strange report about 2 weeks ago, of a family or a man with maybe 2 young kids, in a rubber boat, that appeared to be coming from Canada. Never heard the "rest of that story".

The peace between Egypt and Israel isnt transparent. Terrorists filter into Israel through tunnels and transport weapons to the Gaza strip. This really aggravates Israel, and many rank and file Israelis expect Egypt to become aggressive towards them in the future.

A sizeable segment of the Egyptian population holds Islamist views and sympathies toward Bin Laden and the boys.

If Mubarak were to die, the Islamists have an excuse for the coup they have been waiting for.
