F911 per screen opening was $9868, more than the $9297 for Spiderman. But ya know, that "per screen" thing only goes so far, it is not a full picture of the actual demand. F911 obviously could have supported more screens, I doubt, however, anywhere near as many as Spiderman.
LOOSING MARKET SHARE ? Try the truth !
Absolutely brilliant!
But don't you think Michael Moore picked the timing of the release of his movie so it would be up against rather weak competition? The 4th of July weekend is usually a big weekend for releasing blockbuster movies. The week or so before that sometimes has lame also ran movies.
Not to rain on anyone's parade here, but these movies aren't really in the same category. Not even radical leftists expected F-911 to compete with Spiderman 2 at the box office.
On another note though, Spiderman 2 made almost 40 million on a Wednesday? Was that a record for a Wednesday opening? Seems huge!
Yes, that is a new wednesday recored. Previously held by LOTR:The Return of the King, at $34.5Million.
Moore's film will NEVER be considered a blockbuster. It came out on a weekend with absolutely no competition, well-planned of course. It's had its "15 minutes" and is yesterday's news. It was supported by the far-left who made a concerted effort to push it to momentary hit status (plus a few curious viewers who do not believe his B.S.). This is nothing like the Passion of Christ, also on fewer screens than others but with lasting appeal and status as it has a true message.
"Occam was probably right."
That seems to be the simplest explanation.
Not so impressive when you realize that dems are being rolled out in force to go see it more than once just to Bush Bash and show big numbers.
Ops4 God BLess America!
Michael Moore intentionally picked last week just to give himself a shot at #1. Nobody will see the light of day up against Spiderman.
I was surprised how good it was. It hit the balance just about right between action and good story line. According to the reviews Spiderman II is even better. May just break down and go see it.
That is all just wishful thinking. The hype for the movie is over and most of its rather limited "constituency" aren't inclined to pay big bucks over and over just to keep it on top.
Per screen is a misnomer. The liberals are going to go see F911 wherever it was shown. You get the same audience totals no matter the number of screens. Instead, you create an artificial number that makes F911 seem relevant.
Spidey is creaming F911, and I expect there will be a few more movies that will bury F911 until it gets released as a dvd.
only beating MIchael by nearly 10 to 1 in a little more than double the theatres. Michael, you had a nice run... for 5 days
I'd bet $20 it won't come close.
I went with four of my grandkids to see Spiderman II yesterday. I also follow both "boxofficemojo.com & boxofficeguru.com". Do you know that Spiderman II is the biggest Wednesday opening ever? I suspect Spidey II will gross over $160m for the Wednesday through Monday time frame. As for F-911, its revenue has been dropping every day since it's release, and I suspect it's got about two or three weeks more of life before it drops into the black hole of obscurity forever. As I corrected stated before the film was released, it will make Mr. Moore a very rich man, but it will have little or no impact on the upcoming election. Only the idiot "America haters" are going to see the film, and they can't keep it's legs up for long!!! All they ended doing was to line the pockets of Michael Moore and Harvey Weinstein! Take my word for it, the "summer of Bill Clinton" and the movie "F-911" are going nowhere, no matter what the mainstream media says or does! By the way, does anyone remember the great "environmental Impact" of the movie "The Day After Tomorrow"! Like Al Gore, it is dead and buried!
Don't shoot me but the old slob took about a 15 million dollar budget (and marketing) and parlayed that into 35M the first week.
One could do worse.
A) lots of diehard lefties here, they are organized to buy tickets and the media has done thier part.
B) shame we can't do the same although the media collusion would be hard
