Co-Sponsored by: IGOR BIRMAN, CHRISTOPHER MAYS, JONATHAN HUEY
Honoring the memory of President Ronald Wilson Reagan.

WHEREAS, Ronald Wilson Reagan was twice elected to hold the office of President of the United States by overwhelming margins; and

WHEREAS, President Reagan’s unshakable determination to roll back the Soviet expansion of the 1970’s, despite constant criticism from friends and foes alike, ultimately led to destruction of the Iron Curtain, the demise of the Soviet Union, and an end to the threat of global nuclear war; and

WHEREAS, President Reagan’s commitment to global freedom led to the liberation of hundreds of millions of enslaved peoples throughout the Soviet Empire; and

WHEREAS, President Reagan’s pursuit of tax relief resulted in the reduction of the top marginal tax rate from 70% to 28%, constituting the largest tax cut in American history; and

WHEREAS, President Reagan’s economic policies of reversing government restrictions on private businesses and individuals succeeded in doubling tax revenues while cutting tax rates, adding 18.4 million jobs, and reducing the national rate of inflation from 13.5% to 4.1%; and

WHEREAS, President Reagan understood that the role of government was limited by the Constitution and that government involvement in the private affairs of the People always results in the theft of liberty from the People; and

WHEREAS, President Reagan’s unyielding optimism and sense of patriotism restored the dignity and confidence of the American people, resulting in a dramatic resurgence of American values and national pride; and

WHEREAS, President Reagan passed away on June 5, 2004;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Central Committee of the California Republican Party, assembled in General Session, that the Party expresses its utmost appreciation for the immense public service of President Reagan and notes with deep and solemn mourning the passing of President Reagan and expresses its deepest condolences to the Reagan family; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the California Republican Party will honor the legacy of President Ronald Wilson Reagan by affirming the values for which President Reagan stood and committing itself to following his principles of reducing government control, taxes, spending, and maintaining a strong national defense.

Illinois is dubbed the "Land of Lincoln." Why not formally call California the "Land of Reagan"?

Because Illinois is already the Land of Reagan, too. The places in Illinois where Reagan lived are dominated by Reaganites these days. California is the land of Riordan, as evidenced by who the CA GOP worships nowadays. ;-)
