" I am looking for a low flowering shrub that can take radioactive fallout. Any suggestions?"

Keep your eye out for something that likes low sunlight too, nuclear winter?

President Bush should privately call all Arab leaders and tell them that their country will be eliminated if a single terroist nuke is exploded in the US anytime. That might deter them, but perhaps not. The rag heads are crazy.

We have Three Mile Island (north) and Peach Bottom (southeast) nuclear reactors within 20 miles of my home and business, but otherwise this area is not a "target-rich" environment.

I also live in the area, and I'd like to point to the Army Depot in New Cumberland. This is the major Logistics Base supporting Centcom operations in Afghanistan & Iraq. I'd say that constitutes a strategic target. Oh, and don't forget the Navy Ships Parts Depot in Mechanicsburg.

I mean that there is a good probability that countries that are not friend of the US, and have the money/access may have done such a thing. If the CIA, with its billions of resources say that, I will not discredit their assertion!

I am in 100% agreement with you about wacky Kah-daffy. Posted the exact same thoughts back when he went all nicey-nice.

There's something very fishy about a man who suddenly wants to be your friend and cooperate.

I have read that suit case nukes have a 1-2 kiloton yield and a shelf life of around two years. If true then the only danger the old soviet suitcase nukes pose is a dirty bomb. Now dirty bombs make with weapons grade material would be very nasty, but far less deadly than an actual nuke.

A 1-2K nuke would take out a big city block, but not the entire city.

Tritium, to my knowledge, isn't used in low Kt range nuclear weapons. It's a fusion weapon fuel and the "suitcase" variety are plutonium fission weapons which are stable as far as shelf life goes...

Tritium is used in the initiators (the initial neutron source), and it is used to "boost" fission weapon yields. (In "suitcase nukes," a generous level boosting is needed to actually get the weapon to detonate--the device is fractional-crit and cannot achieve criticality without boosting.)

FWIW, my take is we HAVE found and intercepted some form of dirtybomb/nuke in the US since 911, perhaps even more than one. I don't think they're the type to wait for a certain moment, if they had here, they'd set 'em off ASAP.

I'm sure they're trying. Disturbing is the Russian involvement.

Curious, isn't it, that Iowa would be looking for illegal radioactive materials.

Why?

I think we're going to see a huge push towards telecommuting and decentralization of US population over time (I'm talking really long-term) because of the increasing ease with which terrorists and various crappy countries can hit us. I work from home now and have to admit to feeling quite a bit safer now that I'm not in the downtown core of Seattle anymore.

Think about it, if terrorists really did have 20-40 nukes hidden in this country, why on earth would they bother trying to sabotage a rural nuclear plant?

God I hope this isn't true. If several tactical nukes were popped off in a series of coordinated attacks it would be the end of America as we know it!

That is the kind that you use short term and hope that the Strategic Nook doesn't find out.

"Would it? What would we lose? What is America?"

Still a relatively free nation at present. If I have to tell you that you and I obviously aren't going to agree on that point.
