I think this has great application and relevance today....America was blessed by God to have this man protecting us in WWII. Maybe the French should read this to remember who it was that saved their behinds...The US...and Georgie Patton.

You may be thankful that twenty years from now when you are sitting by the fireplace with your grandson on your knee and he asks you what you did in the great World War II, you WON'T have to cough, shift him to the other knee and say, 'Well, your Granddaddy shoveled shit in Louisiana.'
My favorite part of that speech. Thanks for posting that.

Amazing..What I wouldn`t give to hear a General talk like that about Al-Qaida. Wonder what Patton would think of the Frogs today. He`d probably rip Chirac a new one and want to declare war on France, especially after that episode of graffitti on those D-Day graves. But then of course he`d have to deal with that Al-Qaida sect, the Democ-rats, who would ask for his removal over "inappropriate language towards Muslims".

A speech like that today would get you booted ASAP.
Mine was a much different war but I'm still proud to have the 3rd Army patch on my right shoulder.

We want this war over with. The quickest way to get it over with is to go get the bastards who started it.It applies as much today as it did then.

Just where exactly was Patton's third army on June 5th??? It was the delusional nightmare of Hitler, who waited for the "real" invasion.
I believe the third army was formed on or around June 20-30th, and soon became the instrument forcing the breakout from the Normandy beachheads.
Anyway, I sure would love it if someone could find the most aurthoratative version of "the speech" that exists, but I have my doubts, as I believe that there were likely many variations, adapted to the specific situation, that Patton gave to troops immediately prior to action.
IMO, Patton was the greatest of the leading allied generals, by a large measure.

I was proud to have served in the 3rd Armored Div, which came after 3rd Army and we had all the WWII pennants on our colors. It was a great history to have been associated with.
