If there were no restrictions on age, weight, fitness, etc., would you sign up to join the War on Terror??
This is a vanity poll, due to the news today that the Army may be dipping into the Individual Ready Reserve pool. Several Freepers have indicated they would go if called upon, but they don't think they will be called due to their age.
Please post ONLY ONCE, and ONLY IF YOU WOULD GO, so that we can easily see the tally by looking at the number of replies.
In a heartbeat! Retired in '81 after 26 years. Surely there's something useful this old USN O-5 can do.
I'm 43. If they needed me back, I'd go in an instant. But my son will be heading to Parris Island in September. So I will let him carry on the family tradition of service to country.
Yes!
LOL. When I first read that, I thought you said "but when I called they said I was too odd :-("
Medical Discharge in '81 (developed Diabetes). The spirit is willing but the flesh is probably of no use to the Army. :-(
Sure would. I'm 64 and white haired, but I can lie about my age. My wife and 3 kids can take care of themselves. This is war; remember Patton said Americans LUV a good fight.
So I joined the Coast Guard Auxillary - no top age limit.
I'm 50..female...and I'd go tomorrow. My son said he'd go back (returned in January from Iraq deployment) to Iraq or Afghanistan or anywhere.
Native Son- HOOAH to you - I take my hat off to you and thanks.
Yes
You've more than done your share. Rest easy.
I'm 48+ years old........AF Academy grad, and was once one hell of a KC-135 pilot for the AF............and can walk into a weight room and outlift 90% or more of my peers.........yet I know they wouldn't touch me. Too f**king old. Besides, I wouldn't even consider going in at less than an O-6 at my age and experience level. More's the pity.
Please continue to make any followup posts PRIVATE replies, so that the count will stay as close to a true count as possible.
I have to leave for awhile, but I can't wait to see the count and read the replies when I get back.
Here's to the FREEPER BRIGADE of OLD FARTS !! Old enough to know better, but willing to do it anyway, and we won't be taking any prisoners!!
Yes.
Too old and out of shape, even the National Guard turned me down . :-(
Of course, all who replied in the affirmative, you all ealize that you won't have daily access to FR..
The Old Geezer here: 77 and still kicking... would go in a heartbeat too.... maybe get behind the lines and do what I can do... Still type 85 or 90 words a minute... there's something I could do... type reports.... clerk or whatever... When do we leave guys??? I have thought about it a lot over the years.... Always wanted to get back in and become the soldier I really wanted to be when I signed up in 1945.... Was just a good off then and never got anywhere.... but always proud as punch to have worn a uniform of THE ARMY AIR FORCE, which later became just the AIR FORCE..... gOT $21.00 PER MONTH WHEN i SIGNED UP... AND STILL HAD A LITTLE LEFT TO SOME HOME TO MY PARENTS TO HELP THEM. (only with the stipulation thaat GWB would be my commander in chief...... Stretch...
Oh please let it happen, there IS a god!
Actually, I'm already doing my part as a member of the
Armed Militia. Still, more weapons WOULD be nice.
Current age 56. MOS 71H30 Personell Management Specialist. Grade SP5. Left US Army 24Dec70.
In spite of my age, I could screen the rest of you for possible return to duty, from behind my desk.
Probably in better physical condition than when I got out (not counting vision, hearing, teeth, etc.).
