The Canadian election is today. If the most recent polls are correct, the Conservative Party of Canada may win more seats in Canada's House of Commons, setting the stage for a Conservative minority government. A new day may be dawning in Canada. But the election is going to be close.
Please use this thread for any early election articles that pop-up over the course of the day, predictions and news analysis, and, of course, the actual results as they come in.
Also, please post links to Canadian elections result sites here.
so is Martin still PM?
I ho0pe you're right, but I doubt it. The Liberals are nearing 140. It's over.
I would imagine more erosion of freedom of speech with the expansion of "hate crime" legislation.
Will they pay me to fly the Canadian flag here in beautiful downtown-adjacent Burbank?
The registry is definitely going to roll on...
Recenty Steyn: (He sounds depressed):
10.45pm: Quebec 2000: Combined Alliance/PC vote 11.8%. Current Conservative vote 9.14%. Joe Clark's line about "a nation of nations" seems pertinent here. The Liberal advantage - in that they're the only party that does well enough everywhere coast to coast - looks likely to continue

A coalition with Leftists? Never. The Conservatives are better off being in permanent opposition, true to their principles. There's a lesson from this election for them: don't be me-too pretend Liberals and preserve the welfare state. If the only way you can win is to be the other guy you deserve to lose. Canadian voters figured the problem with the Conservatives is they didn't wear their hearts on their sleeves. No wonder they lost.
sponsor me, PLESE!!!!!
sponsor me, PLEASE!!!!!
:) This election is a huge disappointment, indeed a disaster. Indeed, the Liberals are running so well, that they will be only a few seats short of a majority government. Either the polls sucked, or there was a considerabe swing to the Left at the end.
Whenever I see the words 'beautiful downtown Burbank' I hear them in that baritone Laugh-In voice. LOL
I know it's not looking good at all.
Damn shame too.
This is depressing... Sort of like the Boston Red Sox. They get your hopes up but then they rip your heart out!!!
CHOW defeated.
Good or bad?? CHOW defeated?
Which is strange, because, in most elections, the undecideds "break" for the "insurgents" or challengers.
Do they simply fear the unknown? Were they simply unwilling to vote "against" the liberals by voting "for" the conservatives?
This sucks.
If Kerry wins, I need someplace else to go and now Canada is out. Noplace left to go now.
A smug NDP lost to a LIB. Mostly schadenfreudische value.
Layton's wife lost.
