Keep in mind it's going to make MONUMENTAL amounts of money in Europe.

It's already showing in Europe, and not doing all that well.

You sound like you're pimping for this movie. Who the hell cares if it makes money?

It will have NO influence on the election, which is what this fat monkey made it to do.

Of COURSE it's going to die big; most films do.

It's just when next week Spider Man 2 crushes it at the box office, the massive dancings of jigs about "victory" over 911 that is going to occur around here is going to be pretty silly; like Moore or anyone EXPECTED it to lead the box office two weeks in a row or defeat a massive-budget summer blockbuster.....

And it would not shock me if it pulled in 100-200 million+ overseas.

For a political documentary that's unprecedented success.

And how many people read European newspapers in the US. Close to nil.

Whew you are doing your own moore spinning aren't you.

Oh well moore wastes his money spendthriftly, considering your posts on this thread.

I don't blame you for not saying A word; and I am serious; those people are derranged and if they were openly acting like you say, there is no telling what they would have done to you.

I think you were in great danger even being there.

I'm going to have to agree with you on this. We need to face the fact that Moore just kicked our asses.

Yes, he's primarily preaching to his idiotic choir. Yes, his "facts" are being taken apart one by one.

But there's no way to spin this into anything but a loss for us.

It has benefited from HUGE publicity. It's numbers will be good enough to make Moore a profit, regretably, but it will fall off from here on out and be forgotten by next fall.

Spiderman will definitely knock it out of first place, and it will gradually fade, with respectable but not outstanding numbers.

But blockading theaters is not the answer.

That kind of behavior makes us look bad. Please don't.

It's not a matter of how well it opens, but rather how long it lasts. Does it sustain good sales or wither quickly? That's the key.

Where was the showing? I know there are pockets of skinheads here and there, but in New York at least they aren't nearly as noticeable as they were, say, ten years ago.

I think you are over reacting. I don't hear anyone talking about it (and I'm in NY), except for here on FR. We know what percentage of the US population are Dems, any fraction of that adds up to enough of an audience to generate these box office receipts for this.

To be honest, the numbers ARE impressive for a movie that Moore only spent $6M to make, and $10M to market. Given that the studio gets 50% of the gate the first 2 weeks, Moore has already made back his production budget by Saturday afternoon, and will likely make back his marketing budget by the end of this week. The rest is profit.

Ah, I see we have a selection of people that can't read.

If I were to point out that porn is a multi-billion dollar business and extremely profitable, does that mean I'm in favor of porn?

My point is that, from a purely financial and box-office standpoint, 911 is wildly successful. That has nothing to do with the fact that 911 is a worthless sack of s*** and lies.

And attempting to spin it as some sort of financial or box office failure simply makes people look silly and incapable of objective analysis.

It's already making a profit and for the category of film it is, it's success is virtually unprecedented.

99% of all movies have a rapid decline in box office after the opening weekend (even many successful ones.) 911 is likely to have a rapid decline, but that won't be any evidence that it's a "failure" or that somehow it's been "defeated."

I personally think GWB will win by a mild landslide in November. Whether he's re-elected or not won't be the measure of whether 911 was a financial success; it is already.

It will never make the money Passion of the Christ did, of course. Is every single film that makes less money than Passion a failure, now?

And if people are moronic enough to start picketing or blockading theaters, no doubt 911 will be even more successful thanks to the additional free publicity.

If everyone wants to see something disgusting, go to slashdot and read the comments about the movie in the article about halfway down the page.

The Wayan brothers are hot. I think it was totally racialist and discrimnationary for Michael Moore to release his film the same time as they did.

Here is my Rational for Blockading the Movie.

Operation Rescue has been successful in SAVING LIVES by protesting and Blockading Abortion Clinics. NOT ONLY did they SAVE LIVES but also began to turn the tide of opinion America Against Abortion.

MOORE'S FILM will NOT ONLY cost AMERICAN LIVES (KILL PEOPLE) but MAY also turn the tide of opinion AGAINST the President. IF Moore is successful, Kerry will be Elected and America is doomed.

Moore is not simply aiming to sway an election he is using propaganda to incite a coup de tau against President Bush.

Obviously I'm hoping and praying that there is no Kerry presidency.
