Good! Our word "idiot" comes from the ancient Greek word for a private person uninvolved in public affairs. The Greeks thought any free man who failed to interest himself in his own present and future was an idiot.
Let discussions in public affairs happen everywhere and revel in the discourse.
Only a coward or a fool is afraid to hear what the other side says - a coward because they are afraid they may be "turned" and a fool because they have no counter argument.
The Democrat Party is the party of "Hateriotism"
Yeah!!! Cause, like, before the internet everything was OBJECTIVE. Sure. Go get some more koolaid from the "there is no bias in the "main stream" media" stand.
Bill O'Reilly??
Seems like we're making the same mistake with this film as the left made with The Passion... Giving it all kinds of free publicity.
I figure just ignore it. Let the leftists see it and squeal to each other in their little echo chamber. We only help their cause by going along with the "controversy"..
My brother moved into an apartment in Hoboken that used to belong to John Sayles.
One day, my brother got a beautiful invitation in the mail. He neglected to read the addressee before opening it (yeah right) and turns out it was from Martin Scorcese, of all people!
It was an invitation to a screening and party in Manhattan celebrating Scorcese's rerelease of the restored version of Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren's classic "El Cid."
So, after the initial brouhaha at the door over the fact that my brother and I were not John Sayles and guest, we found ourselves in a sweet little party.
My brother and I sat one row in front of, and six or seven seats to the left of Mr. Heston and Ms. Loren. You could watch them on the screen, thirty or so years younger, or you could turn around and watch them watching themselves.
Plus, we got to drink for free after the show with the stars and a bunch of celebrities like Scorsece and John Turturro and Marissa Tomei.
This is not very relevant to the thread, but it was just cool that we were at a super exclusive Charlton Heston event on that Marxist John Sayles name. It was a good time.
FATSO is laughing all the way to the bank.
I guess campaign finance reform was just to stifle those damned Republicans.
Lord, this makes me so sick. No president has ever suffered the onslaught of lies, propaganda and outright attacks that Bush has. If he wins, it will be a miracle. Why don't the Pubbies stand up and fight? Do they WANT to lose?
Ignoring all all the other crap in this article; would Mr. Ortenberg have made the same argument for a right-wing equivalent to Moore's leftist diatribe?
The answer is "no".
The left's compulsive need to interject their politics into their non-political jobs is pseudo-intellectual masturbation and is just as appropriate to their professions as the physical act would be.
It's simply disgusting.
Films like 'Fahrenheit 9/11' are turning movie theaters into propaganda centers as they were in 1930's Germany.
I see your point, but the truth is that in all reality, no one is going to see this movie, especially 15 & 16 year old kids, R rating or otherwise. The only people who will go are the same leftist hacks who went and saw "Reds" 20+ years ago. It's a documentary, it sucks as a movie, and it will bomb. My kids and their friends are going to "White Chicks". It's funny, entertaining and it's what real movies are all about. We'll read about it on Monday morning, but this is the way it will be.
The good news? Fahrenheit 9/11 dropped 11% in its second day. Considering its only showing on 7 screens in a city with 50,000 people per square mile, failing to sell out those seven screens is a pretty big failure. O sure, we're talking afternoon screenings on a work day, but we're also talking East Village types here. How many of them *have* jobs? In the day time?
Debate occurs when both sides of an issue are forcefully presented. This IS NOT DEBATE.
Next lie, please.
Oliver Stone tried to do this back in 1988 to President Bush 41.
Perhaps if he had sought foreign fundraising he would have been successful. The Soviet Union would have been a good cash base.
I sent the following to a few theatre managers as per the e-mail list provided in a thread a few days ago. There was only one reply to the message (below the following).

Dear Theatre Managers:
Do not show that disgusting pig's (Michael Moore's) "Fahrenheit
9/11" film. It's propaganda against our USA, our soldiers and the
lives of our loved ones. Neither I nor my readers will ever visit
any theatre that shows it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The concept is nothing new. Movies have been liberal propaganda tools since their inception, with very few exceptions, Hollywood movies encourage every liberal, negative, destructive to society novelty which comes along.
If anyone really wants to change American society a good place to start would be to encourage boycotting Hollywood movies. But too many times individuals who call themselves conservative or moral christians, are willing to suspend their private morals and separate their actual belief systems from their public acts by supporting Hollywood and the music industry.
You simply cannot separate the two. Either you are against the liberal propaganda and their destructive agenda, or you support it. Artistic license is no excuse.
If the American people are so weak-minded as to be swayed by Lumpy's propaganda piece and toss out the President, then they deserve what they get. Me, I'll be hunkered down in the backyard bunker I'm building.
It's pretty bad when you have to entertain democrats
for TWO HOURS, just to get an $8 campaign donation.
Once their arguements are presented in a forum on equal grounds, they are demolished.
You simply can't beat the facts. The rats have to lie their way around them.
They are well endowed by the likes of Michael Moore who crawl out from under their rocks to produce such creations.
It's funny, but as time goes on, we are seeing more and more striking similarities between the Socialist Democrats and the National Socialists of 1930s-40s Germany.
It's pretty chilling to feel like we're watching the whole movement start all over again. They've already found their "Joseph Goebbels" in Michael Moore.
Yet, are we destined to repeat history here? One continual question I hear again and again is, "If all German's weren't complacent about the Nazi's, why didn't they do anything about them before they came to power?".
Well I ask you, what are we doing about it? Did the Germans do the same thing? Complain amongst each other? [so far I can say I've been openly debating such topics.] I'm not saying that we're not doing anything, simply asking the question...
Anyway, Cincinatus' Wife's posts always get me thinking...
