What a gutless wonder.

A proposal that wouldn't have harmed 1 single animal more than the previous law did, and would have saved millions for local governments that chose to goto 3 days, gets pulled off the table because of pressure from the kook-wing.

Not that I'm in favor of throwing puppies squealing into the meat grinder or anything like that, but what stake (not to mention jurisdiction) could the state conceivably have in a local issue like this???

Just say no to puppy killing.

Supply and Demand.. The only thing that would have changed with this law would be which animals were killed and which animals went home.. The total number of animals killed wouldn't have changed 1 single puppy.

It would have changed it from 6 days to 3. 3 just isn't enough time.

Hey, once they're in the slammer, they're pretty much doomed anyway.

Fiscal responsibility can buy them a few more days....but as long as people have these animals, and let them breed....without taking responsibility for the outcome....these little fellers are doomed.

Some days, I really dislike people. As Mark Twain wrote: "Heaven goes by grace. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in."

Arrrggg! Niether the old nor the new law requires any animal to be killed. These laws mandate that certain animals may not be killed for a certain number of days. Shelters can still put their dogs in a palace for life if that's how they want to spend their money.

Exactly. My heart would break to work in such a place.

Yes, but the law PROTECTS the animals from being killed before they can be reunited with their owner. If the state takes it upon itself to kill people's pets, reasonable time should be allowed for the owners to reclaim them.

Okay, I'll post this again,.. i put it on the other "Animal Terminator" threads...

In this scenario, we're under the 6-day law: Say a family goes into the SPCA and wants to get a cat. They narrow it down from 100 cats, they are deciding between Cat A and Cat B. Cat A has been at the SPCA for 5 days.. Cat B has been there for 2 days.. They choose Cat A and take him home. Cat B doesn't get picked, and nobody else picks him up, He gets murdered after Day 6.

Under the new 3-day law.. The family walks into SPCA.. Cat A isn't there, He's a dead goose. Cat B is still there.. They pick Cat B. Under 3-day law, Cat A is dead, Cat B is alive.

The only thing the 3-day law changes, is which specific animal lives, and which dies. The exact number of animals killed and adopted doesn't change ONE SINGLE BIT!

Say 10 cats are turned into the SPCA in 1-day.. On an average day 3 of these cats are adopted.. Anyway you look at it, whether it's a 3-day law or 6-day law.. 7 cats will die, and 3 cats will go home with a new family.

An owner who irresponsibly doesn't have contact information on the collar, apparently doesn't care too much about their pet.

You're talking about pets like they're a commodity.. just like picking up a toaster or DVD player! The shelter isn't just about adoption. Peoples pets can get loose and they need to be reunited with their owners.

You go explain to a six year-old girl that the shelter killed her Fluffy, but it is okay since some other random mutt is available for adoption.
