SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. (AP) - A teenage girl shot and killed her father Wednesday after he kidnapped her and two sisters at gunpoint and shot their mother in the face, authorities said.

The man was found dead in his car near a park about 30 miles east of Carson City, authorities said. He apparently had been drinking heavily and fell asleep, giving the girl the opportunity to shoot him.

This investigation needs to go further. The people of Nevada have the right to know how their government failed the citizenry.

This cannot be allowed to happen again.

My apologies for my last post. I thought you were responding on one of the Bosnia threads, where I constantly get self-defense arguments to justify Bosnian anti-Muslim genocide.

I screwed up; you have my deepest apologies.

(Yes, I will acknowledge when I effed up, when called for!)

More local updates. There are a lot of questions regarding the bail reduction - one of the links is for the video of the bail hearing. The story is staying on the front page of the local papers which is surprising, given that Silver Springs is a very small crossroads a good distance from either Carson City or Reno.

Shucks, #82 was pulled and I missed it altogether. It must have been a good one.

Apology accepted, whatever it was for.

Final Update -

No charges will be filed. Details at the links.

YERINGTON - Criminal charges will not be filed in the shooting death of 43-year-old Walter Nelson Ball III of Silver Springs, Lyon County District Attorney Leon Aberasturi said Friday.

Aberasturi said the killing of Ball was justified under Nevada Revised Statutes and relevant case law. Aberasturi made his determination Friday after having been presented with the case on Monday.

Investigator Rob Hall, said the sheriff's investigation "clearly indicated the victims were in fear for their lives. The facts and the circumstances of this case are that the shooting was a justifiable homicide."

The death of Walter Nelson Ball Jr. has been determined to be justified under Nevada law, and no charges will be filed, Lyon County authorities said Saturday.

Investigators had said weeks ago that they did not think authorities would recommend any of his children face criminal charges in the death of the 43-year-old Silver Springs man, also known as Walter Nelson Ball III.

“The investigation clearly indicated the (victims) were in fear for their lives,” a statement issued by the county sheriff’s office said Saturday. “The facts and circumstances of this case are that the shooting was a justified homicide.”
