This isn't Vietnam... not by any stretch of the imagination.

sure, I can see the baby boomer children of US liberals signing up to fight in the war. don't force us into a war we might not be able to win, unless you are advocating we commit WMD genocide against them.

AQ would love us to nuke Mecca - they'd have 100 million jihadis ready to sign up across every nation on the globe.

Perhaps, or maybe the other 1.2 billion Muslims might just want to save the rest of what's left of their holyland.

Does anyone think for one minute that if these sub-humans had nukes, chemical weapons or any WMDS, they would not have used them by now somewhere, sometime? They have nothing but the sympathy of the left in this country, and that is what they are playing to with these barbaric beheadings.

These murderous Islamist thugs stage an outrageous provocation, and like answering a Pavlovian bell, the Freeper "kill them all" and "Nuke Mecca" dullards come bounding into these threads like dogs in cyber-heat.

Freepers who urge genocide and mass retaliation are doing the Islamists' work for them.

The South Koreans have a bad ass military, with a well deserved reputation for taking no prisoners! My prediction is that the ragheads are in for a lotta tough days and nights! Revenge has a special meaning in South Korea.

That's a comforting thought...what we can't (or I should say, won't) do, for reasons that should be obvious (IMHO), perhaps someone else can and will do...

Explain, you don't think we'd have done a land invasion? Or that it would've been outrageously deadly? just answer and don't be obtuse.

Of course it was slated. My brother in law would have been in the first wave. My uncle and father would have been off-shore on their ships. My grandfather was already re-assigned from a European to a Pacific theater post -- and was stopped only by the Emperor's surrender.

It is generally accepted that, had it not been for Hirohito doing the literally unprecedented, and speaking personally to the Japanese people on the radio, the war would have continued, the invasion would have occurred, and millions of people would have died.

That wasn't his point. He said the U.S. was following the same strategy in Iraq that made Vietnam such a disaster.

First, we won't ever win this war in the short term. We are winning the battles but this is going to be a "long hard slog."

In the short term, do everything in our power to stop the killing. That means intelligence. that means using Iraqi's to punish and otherwise subject their own who fight against them. That means killing them where they are.

IF they were to succeed with a nuke weapon on our soil, which I think is far from reality, we hit back with a hardened fist on countries who supported the plan.

There isn't much else you could do at that point. This isn't the cold war but the methods of fighting the cold war will work in this situation. Those methods are indeed, for the long term.

don't count on it - as I said in the post above, if this becomes a general war against Islam - to win, we'll have to commit genocide against them.

What do you propose, cookies and milk and maybe a teddy bear to appease these monsters.

When they separate your head from your body it will be too late to change your mind.

Kill 250,000 civilians???? Define civilians.

In a town where every house, including houses of worship are safe houses for terrorist, there are no civilians at all and whatever innocents who may have once lived there have long since fled, or else spend their time praying that someone will be merciful enough to destroy their tormentors, even if they themselves and the town must perish with them.

Genocide and mass murder are not necessary.

At a bare minimum, all food and water supplies should be shut off in areas where this kind of sh!t happens. The only ones allowed in will be civilians from coalition nations who are willing to carry out humanitarian efforts.

The abduction and murder of coalition civilians will likely result in a very severe shortage of volunteers to carry out such missions.

When it's all over, we'll just shake the flies off the bodies and bury them, and shake the dust off our feet and move on -- and hope the lesson is learned next time.

This sentiment is growing unfortunately and is exactly the kind of split in support for our policy our enemies are counting on.

My father is 78 and sits around because of poor health watching all the media criticism of Bush, and now he sounds no different than Michael Moore when I talk to him...the beheadings are now Bush's fault...never mind the evil f&%$#@ing a-holes who are beheading people.

This man, my father, is a decorated WWII vet who until recently was pretty conservative....I don't know if its senility, media brainwashing or what, but I get sick to my stomach hearing the crap that comes out of his mouth now...because he is my father and I love him.

The power of the media is overwhelming...and is traitorous in its support of a Democratic presidential candidate to the detriment of our national interests.

We are in a new ballgame now...and we are on a razor's edge...and looming in the background is an Islamic terrorist with his hand on a button set to explode a nuclear device in the now not too distant future.

These are treachorous times...
