The invention of the printing press scared the hell out of the Catholic church. The church was no longer the only source of spiritual information for the people.

As a result, the inquisition was invented to insure that the people were obeying the teachings of the Catholic Church and were not being contaminated by reading the actual scriptures.

This is a sad part of your history.

Did you even bother to read the article? I thought not. The printing press was not invented until the 1450s and the Inquisition in Spain was all about Judaephobia, not suppression of heretical tracts.

More revisionist crapola. Gutenberg received most of his financing from the Catholic Church and the first book he printed was the Bible.

Mommy and daddy didn't make the mistake of paying for that rotten education you got, did they?

Oh, horsepuckey! There were Inquisitions centuries before the invention of printing; read the article.

The Church has never had a problem with people reading the Bible; it's unauthorized versions of the Bible she objected to.

Incidentally, the man who invented printing was Johann Gutenberg. He was a Catholic. The first book he printed was the Vulgate Bible.

Would you like to prove your assertions? It's kind of odd that the Church you make these accusations of preserved those Scriptures and made them available to the public.

If the Catholic Church believes people will be contaminated makes it mandatory for those people to be exposed to the entire Bible, at least every three years. (It's considered a mortal sin otherwise.) Sorry if that gets in the way of your hatred and intolerance.

You are right.

Lord Action's response to this very situation was:

"Absolute power corrupts absolutely." The head of that belief system is as corrupt as ever.

If you had actually bothered to read the article, you'd know that the Inquisition was begun long before the invention of the printing press.

It's ironic that you're extolling the proliferation of ideas via the printing press in the 16th century, but won't even consider an idea that shows your belief to be wrong on points of fact here in the 21st century.
