President Bush is about to speak to our troops.
You can tell. These guys love him! WOW!
Today, however, he was at the top of his form. I guess it was because he was in the company of REAL people rather than journalists.
He speaks of it everytime he gives a speech and hit it today heavily.
Admittedly we didn't transcribe it--but he most certainly talked about it--and not glossing over it, but in detail. Then spoke of the improvements being made .

Bush is now going to the hospital to visit the wounded and I am sure families who have lost loved ones,too. He always does that when he visits a base.
In the case of MSA (Modern Standard Arabic) I think you're right. It's basically the 8th century Arabic of Muhammed's time, spoken in the Quran, and is not meant for light reading. MSA is like the Latin of the Middle East; all the modern dialects are derived from it. I don't think it's widely spoken outside of Saudi Arabia.
As far as dialects go, Iraqi Arabic is as different from Egyptian Arabic as Italian is from Spanish. Similiar grammar, different vocab. Arabic is not difficult to read once you know the alphabet (far easier than say, Chinese). And, there are a number of newspapers and other things written in dialect in each country, so there's no reason they couldn't have more. Aside from the cultural and political forces that have an interest in keeping people ignorant, of course.

PARENTS in Iraq have been beaten and THEIR CHILDREN made to watch.
vs.
Imagine if it were YOUR and YOU and YOUR MOM, YOUR CHILD - that kind of stuff.
Don't get me wrong, I'm only trying to add a higher level of emotion to get an even bigger charge out of the speech. ---It's BECAUSE I care so much for W!

Wrong. Latest Nielsen shows only 25-28 million get their news from evening network broadcasts.
