"On Sunday, The Dallas Morning News will begin publishing the results of a major yearlong investigation into a largely uncovered aspect of the Catholic sex abuse scandal. The series of stories are international in scope, and will make headlines nationally and overseas. I’m not at liberty to disclose details yet, but I’ve seen advanced copies of the articles, and they are devastating. I believe at this point, more details will be available on Friday morning, when one of the reporters on the series does an interview on National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition.” The stories will be available on the dallasnews.com website starting either late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

I expect these stories to dominate conversation among concerned American Catholics next week, and into the early summer (because there will be much more to come; next week’s series only reveals part of what our reporters have uncovered and documented). These findings give lie to the claim from Church officialdom that this scandal is over. The cover-up continues."

"Not only stories, but photographs. I’ve seen the planned cover of Sunday’s DMN. The picture they’re going to run is a jaw-dropper...I hate to tell you this, but the bishops already know. They have known. They hoped you and I wouldn’t find out. That’s part of the story... Also, our people are now talking to national media about this. Starting Friday night, you might be seeing stuff about this. I’ll let Dom and others know if any early media appearances are scheduled."

The "church" is the body of believers in Christ.

One would think that the body of believers would be unified in belief?

You would know this if you were familiar with what the Bible states.

"that they may be one" - I read that in the bible. What does it mean? Is the Eucharist the body and blood of Jesus Christ or is it merely a rememberence of Him? Can you lose salvation or not? Are you predestined for heaven or are you predestined for hell? Do you confess your sins ("And he breathed on them and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: whose soever sins ye forgive, they are forgiven unto them: whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained")? Do you use birth control (and no religious body embraced birth control until 1930)? Does your denomination teach abortion is a sin? Is divorce and remarriage discouraged?

Oh, and "Legitmate criticism is not 'bashing'."

When? I never read about that.

We'd like all colluding priests, bishops and cardinals in jail as well and they would be except for the little problem of the laws of the land - like the statute of limitations. How many lawyers and policemen would be there as well... maybe even some parents... there were millions paid out in secrecy, some arranged it and some took it and didn't look back.

There is not one church that has had no sexual abuse of children and swept it under the rug. Not unless you worship at home and not in a community of some sort.

Your story makes little sense. Your father abandoning your mother and you kids was sinful and may well have justified him being refused the Eucharist unless and until he repented and regularized his situation. If the priest KNEW your mother to be somehow responsible for your father leaving, maybe that would justify his telling her the same. Under no set of circumstances could that order be binding or even applicable to the children of the marriage. I think that is why Salvation believes that there is more to the story and so do I. What possible agenda could anyone have in questioning whether there were not more facts than were posted? If you were very young at the time, you may have misunderstood what was going on.

The story is about pedophile priests being moved from COUNTRY TO COUNTRY by bishops and by religious orders (the Salesians and Franciscans were mentioned by name).

You claim, seriously, that a Bishop may not excommunicate "on his own?"

You better look hard at Book 6 of the Canon Law. You may look particularly hard and long at Canon 1364. Not surprisingly, Bruskewitz first issued a public warning with a reasonable deadline. Since 1364 is 'latae sententiae' penalty, his warning may or may not have been necessary, but he certainly was polite in issuing same.

A Bishop has sole responsibility for his Diocese and reports, not to USCC, not to Sinkspur, not to Ninenot--but to JPII. Nobody else, period.

Vatican II did not change that, could not, and would not. Again, you are way out on a limb.

Further, you have yet to cite ANY authority for the YOPIOMarriage Law remarks you've made regarding Lincoln's summary quoted by Peach.

Seems to me that if you wish to contradict a Bishop, you should have a citation handy.

What I would recommend for you, then, since you are so blinded by hate for the Holy Catholic Church (a name taken at the Nicene Council officially, but used before that), is to read some history of the Christian Church. You will find that the early Church was the Catholic Church. Eucharist was the center of Sunday worship, the Sacraments were in place, and people called their priests (men, by the way) "Father" (see Paul's epistles for more on that). They worked on their salvation, because that is the manifestation of their belief in Jesus. Baptism was intregal, and they believed what Jesus taught in the verses in my tag line. The head bishop, or pope (Peter), had great authority over the early Church, and was considered as the prophets of old, who were able to correctly discern matters of faith and morals. They prayed for the dead (as did the Jews of old, who believed what was said in the O.T.), and even talked with those who had gone before them into heaven. Saints and matyrs were honored.

Quite seriously, if you really want to know why I'm Catholic, and why you should be, too, you would read the writings of the early Christian Church, study some of the history of the Church. All other forms of Christianity are break-offs from the Mother Church, the Catholic Church, and have dropped this or that to conform with what they did not like about Her. For example, it was Calvin who decided that, instead of the Eucharist, there should be a sermon. In the early Church, Eucharist was the center of Sunday's service (aka Mass).

Now, do I think that even for a second you'll take my advice? Nope, not at all. But, it would be a failure to do my duty as a Christian to NOT at least try to point you in the right direction. It's up to you what you do with the information you're given. That's why it's called Free Will. :)

By the way, putting scare quotes around Faith and Church are pretty offensive. I've said nothing nasty about your brand of Christianity at all, yet you are purposely being offensive here. All I'm doing is my job, defending the Faith. I know by Whom I was saved, and in Whom I put my trust. I also know where to find Him.

There is no need for divorced people to "check with one's pastor" about receiving the Eucharist. If they're not aware of any serious sin, especially in the case of an abandoned partner, then they can receive the Eucharist.

His directive is a remnant of that pre-1960 practice which seeks to "avoid scandal" by depriving divorced Catholics of the Eucharist.

There is NO BASIS for that prohibition, anywhere in Church law.

Someone said it before...the Church is going to be pruned down in a big way. It's going to hurt, but we'll be healthier in the end. In the meantime, hang tight, cling to Christ through the Sacraments, and pray hard. John Paul the Great has a difficult time ahead of him.

You think the school districts don't do it to? Here's a news flash: Public schools bounce those teachers around from school to school, district to district. Those same teachers hand out uneven moral pronouncements every day. The difference is they ARE NOT held to any standard.
