"On Sunday, The Dallas Morning News will begin publishing the results of a major yearlong investigation into a largely uncovered aspect of the Catholic sex abuse scandal. The series of stories are international in scope, and will make headlines nationally and overseas. I’m not at liberty to disclose details yet, but I’ve seen advanced copies of the articles, and they are devastating. I believe at this point, more details will be available on Friday morning, when one of the reporters on the series does an interview on National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition.” The stories will be available on the dallasnews.com website starting either late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
I expect these stories to dominate conversation among concerned American Catholics next week, and into the early summer (because there will be much more to come; next week’s series only reveals part of what our reporters have uncovered and documented). These findings give lie to the claim from Church officialdom that this scandal is over. The cover-up continues."
Rod Dreher confirms:
"Not only stories, but photographs. I’ve seen the planned cover of Sunday’s DMN. The picture they’re going to run is a jaw-dropper...I hate to tell you this, but the bishops already know. They have known. They hoped you and I wouldn’t find out. That’s part of the story... Also, our people are now talking to national media about this. Starting Friday night, you might be seeing stuff about this. I’ll let Dom and others know if any early media appearances are scheduled."

I think this was to give us a timeline of when it was. Before Vatican II, specifically.
What is this new scandal going to be about?
I'm not Catholic, but I don't think God opposed the war in Iraq at all. He certainly seemed to bless our effort.
I don't think the Pope spoke for God when he called the war immoral.
The church, both Roman Catholic and Protestant, does have both authority and duty to warn people when they do wrong. I just think the Pope acted outside of his authority by not thinking through the issues clearly and not consulting God before issuing his statement.

You are correct. The evil in our church is a cancer that needs to be revealed and purged. The bush needs to be pruned down to it's very roots. It will be painful, but we will have a stronger church when all is said and done.

Civil divorce is not a good thing, period, as you well know. The phrase 'for better or worse' has meaning.
Obviously, there are reasons to split--physical abuse of spouse or children comes to mind. But "I don't love you any more" doesn't cut it.

Your assertion about the Church's position on Iraq is ignorant at best. The Pope is not supposed to be a cheerleader for war, but he recognized the authority that GWB had to do what he did as licit.
There has been NO "official" or "unofficial" condemnation of the effort in Iraq. There has been some silly chatter from one Cardinal, whose remarks have been studiously ignored by others in the Vatican--pointedly.

I was the oldest at 7 and so was hardly in a position to go to church alone with my siblings so WE could receive the sacrament.
Before you said that the priest told your family that none of you could receive.

Peach, don't get mad at those who are defending the Church; they are doing so because your story impugns the integrity of the Church and yet does not quite ring true in many essential respects. You were young at the time, your memory might not be wholly accurate, and I would urge you to reconsider your anger at the Church. Within the Catholic Church, and the Catholic Church alone, do the full truths of Christianity reside. (Pace, separated Brethren.) Please come home to the Catholic Church and see for yourself.
Generally, cops don't rat out other cops, lawyers will NEVER testify that another lawyer screwed up a case, and docs won't rat out other docs.
So the priest/priest thing is not unusual, which does NOT make it right.
So what. Jesus is with the Catholic Church until the end of time. More personal failures? Imagine the worst - how bad could it be?

To declare that the Church has no moral authority because of the sins of its members is analagous to declaring that YOU have no moral authority vis-a-vis your children because at one time YOU may have sinned.
The Church and its Bishops merely voice moral truths, in the same way that parents do.

Well, if priests were telling divorced people to stay away from the sacraments, then somebody's integrity OUGHT to be impugned.
And, what she says is true. Some priests, concerned about scandal, asked divorced Catholics to not receive Communion.
I'm a divorced Catholic, I've NEVER been denied communion. Since June 1989.
