Beirut, Lebanon, Jun. 15 (UPI) -- Iran reportedly is readying troops to move into Iraq if U.S. troops pull out, leaving a security vacuum.
The Saudi daily Al-Sharq al-Awsat, monitored in Beirut, reports Iran has massed four battalions at the border.

"Iran reportedly is readying troops to move into Iraq if U.S. troops pull out"
Important to note the "IF US TROOPS PULL OUT".
Firstly, the troops are not going anywhere and secondly, whatever we think of the mullahs, you must be able to understand why they would want to secure their border against an ungoverned nation.
I agree, what the hell are 4 battalions going to do if we leave? Maybe we should just create a 'border incident' and wipe them out in one night and claim we thought they crossed into Iraq due to a 'GPS malfunction'. Hell, if it's good enough for Janet Jackson...
Is it just me or does anyone else have Rush's Gorbachev Theme going through their mind all the time now - and my 2 guys keep humming it!
They're probably expecting a few bombs to do away with their nuke program. So this could be a pathetic attempt at sabre rattling. Which is apt as they might as well arm themselves with sabres, as they're gona get an a**whipping anyway.
Units in foreign armies are usually smaller than ours; four battalions of the Iranian Army may be more like 1,200-2,000 troops.
Which, of course, is hardly "massing" of anything.
Iran has
2 Mechanized Divisions
3 Armored Divisions
5 Infantry Divisions
1 Special Forces Divison
1 Parachute Division
1 SSM Brigade
1 Logistics Bridgade
Four battalions? That's "massing?"
C'mon. They can do better than that. Four divisions, that would be massing troops...
IMO.. because they have been surrounded on both sides by "the great satan" for over a year now, and the pressure has finally caused the mullahs to snap.
I believe Iran has been the eventual target all along, we've just been sneaky about it.
Four whole battalions! Wow! One MOAB should get their attention!
4 battalions is a massive troop formation? Four battalions of Iranians in sandals carrying AK's and RPG's is hardly worth a couple of cluster bombs.
The Iranians have 2 Divisions stationed south east of Iraqi-Iranian border (One of them is Armored OR Cavalry Division). 2 Division in east of Iraqi border (Infantry). Totally 4 Divisions. And they have an Airborne group in west of Iran using AH-1 Cobras.
I don't know why they are just massing some small size battalions if they want to come in after we pull out. And why they don't use all of their power?
Can we break out the cluster bombs soon? Please? Sitting massed ducks with no civilians mixed in, it would be a SIN not to send them to allah :)).
Time to nuke the Iranian nukes. Or take them out some other way, just so long as they are neutered.
This may be election-year posturing by the Iranians to make the case for keeping troops there.
Our wonderful, unbiased media will do the rest with attacks on Bush and policy to make Kerry look like the impending saviour of western civilization....(BARF)
To say the least. Engage their troops at the border and let the populace overthrow the government. Sounds like they WANT to lose power.
No, no, no. Listen, this is nothing more than one of those Middle Eastern wedding parties. They do this all of the time out in the middle of nowhere. Those battalions having nothing but musical instruments and wedding cakes with them.
At least that's what'll be claimed if they're hit.
I had not heard that. Bad news.
