Reagan son said story: Reagan saw a woman on TV who needed money so Ronald Reagan sent her a check for $2000.00. She appeared on news with check in frame and was going to keep check instead of cashing it. Ronald Reagan saw this and sent ANOTHER check with a note that said "please cash this one". I heard this differently ... the amount was $200 and the woman's friends told her she couldn't cash the original seeing that it had RR's signature on it. She spoke with RR and explained her dilemma. He in turn spoke with his accountant and had him issue the check after placing a stop payment on the original. I think I heard this in one of yesterday's tributes. I find my version a little more plausible.

History channel will be rerunning the documentary at midnight est. Either one still conveys the meaning behind the story.
I like your version better than the one in the documentary.
