Alot of dignataries are now showing up to pay respects. McCain, Guiliani, Gorby, Karzai, etc.
Cspan has live coverage. Bush expected at 7 but could be earlier? He is then going to visit with Mrs. Reagan.
Guard changes about every half hour at .28 and .58 of the hour. One is going on right now.
Please tell me these 2 are not going into the Rotunda....
SHAMEFUL after his little parade at Reagan Library other day.
I'm not arguing with ya, not at all.
Guess we need to start praying for him!
Is he outside the Rotunda? F'n alert! Everyone bow while he grins like a...like a...like a cheese-eating monkey!
I think President Bush left quickly for a variety of reasons..he was emotional (Reagan is his role model and he adores the man), he wanted to keep it dignified, he knows this is about President Reagan and not himself, he didn't want to hold up the crowds that had been waiting many hours to pay their respects, and last but not least, he and Laura were on their way to see Nancy Reagan at Blair House. He handled it just right.
I'm so proud and grateful that President Bush was brought up well. He came to pay his respects, he did that and left immediately, with a little inconvenience as possible to the other mourners.
Clinton's funeral ought to be curious - what a contrast ! We'll all be staying AWAY from it !!!!
Looks like something approaching a couple of million people in DC have tried to be "in that number" when RWR came marching in one last time.
This is from the latest Reuters update on Yahoo News: "Ordinary Americans came in the thousands, with ridership on the city's underground Metro system hitting a record 850,636 trips on Wednesday alone." And that's just one mode of transportation. How many drove in, or took busses, or walked over?
Capitol Hill police are currently estimating that more than 250,000 will make it into the Rotunda to view the casket. I've seen no estimates of the number of people who lined the route from Andrews to the Capitol yesterday. But if there's someone who could supply the number of miles, it would be easy for one of our mathematically inclined FReepers to come up with an estimate since people were standing six to 15 folks deep most of the way on both sides.
In any case, the spontaneous massive outpouring of respect and affection for President and Mrs. Reagan is beyond anything anyone expected or planned for either in DC or Simi Valley. It gladdens this particular American's all-too-often weary soul.
Hadn't planned to get back online today, but needed to catch a bit of what happened when GWB and Laura arrived.
Once all the French women are in burkas, the schools are closed, the govt is run by islamic nuts,,,,then the French will remember they like us. Till then, it is same old same old.
OK. THAT'S disgusting.
You mean I missed President Bush? Blast!
"doing lord knows what to Bill's coffin"
ROTFLOL! You got me with that one. I cannot even imagine how sorted that event will be .. mercifully I may not be around .. I don't think I could bear to watch.
If you are not a gumm'int worker, or self- employed, you can burn a vacation day, as I did.
Kerry probably has a little audiotape player with "Hail to The Chief" going full blast as he enters, smiling, in to the Rotunda to once again "pay his respects". What a POS.
You know, I have to admit...in all of this, I hadn't even thought of that. Bush 41 will be 80 this weekend, and I'm sure that Mrs. 41 isn't that far away. May God have mercy on us all.
I guarantee you that I will be praying tonight, and in the morning for the President, as he speaks. I expect that it will be different than the service after 9-11, though he did a great job there--this was someone that he knew...it was his father's boss for eight years, and I believe that he worked on "40"'s campaign...at least one of them.
Father of Mercies, and God of all comfort, please comfort your son, our President, as he prepares to speak tomorrow. Your Word says that the one who is skilled in his work will stand before kings, not before the obscure. Please grant him multiplied rest and health tonight, and Your perfect peace. Be with them, and us, dear Lord, we pray, Amen.
Do you know what scares me about Clinton's funeral? I'm afraid that he'll request to be buried at Arlington.
I can't,,got people depending on me and just got back from three weeks vacation. It wouldn't be prudent. It would be just plain wrong. But , well, I will think about it. Surely they will rerun it all weekend.
Go back a couple pages here and you'll see pictures. They didn't stay long at all. It was very dignified, and NOT a photo-op.
