A Russian scientist says manned Martian flights could render a male astronaut sterile, shrink his musculature and weaken his bones

How long would it take to get to Mars? 30 years to get there and 30 years to come back?
No, it's not nearly that long, looking at a couple years each way, I believe.
Balderdash! Me and my friends (deep inside the earth) travel to Mars all the time. Hasn't affected me in the least. I'm as virile and sane as I ever was . . .but . .I sometimes ramble . . .gibberish . . on . . and . . on and it some . .times . . dont make . . good sense . . and . . I get these . . headaches . . and . . Ive this . . . boil . . that I . . . need . . .lanced . . in . . a . . most . . .uncumfurtble . . . mi spelin . goes downhil . . from . . de sp a c e t r a v e l . . . . an . . . whur wuz . . I . . ?
So can driving on freeways.
Lead lined BVD's.
The unmanned ship will contain only algorejr.
If we really want to go to Mars, a better idea would be to overcome our allergy to nuclear power. Nuclear rockets would enable larger payloads to be sent to Mars, and the trip would be much quicker. NASA already has serious plans to use nuclear-powered ion rockets for probes to the outer planets, but I don't know if nuclear power is under serious consideration for any manned missions.
There is a marvelous book on Project Orion, by George Dyson, the son of one of the principle scientists involved (Freeman Dyson). This project would have involved a ship the size of a submarine, propelled by specially-designed atom bombs. Their slogan was Saturn By 1970.
Sheesh!
Or is it impulse power? I ferget...
"My response would be BS!!!"
actually, the opening line is correct. the lack of gravity would lead to muscle & bone loss - the sterility from the prolonged exposure to radiation (possible).
All negatives have countermeasures but they add weight.
Tell me about it.
Aye, laddie. But tha' only works if ya got tha' proper configuration in tha dilithiun chamber.
All you have to do is stare at this photo and you too can feel your musculature shriveling and getting all weak. You might even go sterile.
Don't look too long at it.
Now how exactly are we going to breed with the Martian women and make a hybrid race of alien-men if we get sterile on the trip out there ?
In other words, the same effects as a half-hour visit on the Dr. Phil show.....
If we build a large, self contained, robotic transporter unit OUTSIDE the ship, and use another one INSIDE the ship, we could transport the ship ahead, then leapfrog the outer unit ahead of the ship's new location...
That would allow us to divert all propulsive power to both the shields and transporters. All we wouold need to do then is periodically vent plasma from the now unused warp coils.
That should give us a large boost over Impulse speeds inside the system's safty-zone for not using warp engines.
Has to safer and cleaner than the Atomic Bomb Drive proposed by NASA.
Those Who Go to the Moon & Mars will VOLUNTEER for the "Trips!"
The "Down Side" of those "Trips" will be WILLINGLY Accepted.
There will be a SUBSTANTIAL RISK of Death on those trips--the "Volunteers" will, Nevertheless, accept that Risk.
We WILL "Go Back to the Moon--& On to Mars,--& Beyond--" because "W" has "Said So,"--& Because our Species CANNOT SEE a "Place we Cannot Reach!!"
It is the "ESSENCE OF" our Species that we "Go Out!!"
FEW of our "Political Leaders" have EVER GRASPED the ESSENCE of our Nature!!
Mr REAGAN Did,--& SO DOES "W"!!
So We will "Go OUT--Despite the Cost,"--& we will Make "Ronny" PROUD!!
& I BET THAT a BASE on the Moon or on Mars will be Named After Mr Reagan!!
He Would Approve!!
