Did you hear Nancy Garrett (sp?), of the Wash. Post tell Brit Hume on Fox earlier that the thousands of people lining the route of the caisson earlier were there because it was historical. Those who wait in line to file past the casket in the Rotunda will be paying respects to the President. I wonder what she thought when Nancy Reagan got out of the car and people cheered and called out that they loved her? Thousands waited in oppressive heat to pay respects along Constitution Ave. The Wash. Post just can't stop sniping. By the way, I didn't see Kerry there.
Probably off re-inventing himself looking for Gore's make-up artist from the debates. ;-)
MSNBC had a reporter stopping and asking people why they were there. All said out of love for the President. And the last one, a lady said she not only loved Reagan, but that she used to be a democrat.
The reporter immediately stopped interviewing people in line, and went into a completely different line of reporting. I think he even did a John Belushi - "hey look, ab baby wolf!"
I noticed that too, but during the funeral I didn't think it appropriate to bring it up.
I also noticed that Brit immediately jumped on her, saying that those people were standing 10 deep in terrible heat to honor President Reagan. I can't remember exactly what he said, but I considered it a pretty good slap down!
I rest my case. I had heard other reporters hinting at such, and as I posted a short while ago, without the applause and callings out of "Bless you" and "we love you", the media would try to present an alternate view of the event. Now they can't.
