I love tidbits of info like this! Thanks so much. Earlier, when they played "Hail To The Chief" at the Capitol building, I wondered how many Presidents (maybe as they are leaving office)think about it playing for them again at their funeral. It is, at once, a creepy-shivery thought but also somehow profound.Yeah, it comes off like a disturbing reenactment of the old Monty Python "How Not To Be Seen" sketch.

Wow.
Just wow.
The Good Old Days truly disappeared the moment Baroness Thatcher touched the casket. It's over.......What great leaders they were........
Who was the first dignitary, the man that was alone, to come by before Thatcher?

LI wonder what goes through the minds of the honor guards as they stand perfectly still throughout all of this. LA media interviewed some of the honor guard detail posted at the RR Library in Simi Valley and asked them that exact same question......
The two marines that were interviewed said that they focus on the colors worn and the faces of those that pass by.
They assured the interviewer and the public that any attempt to cross a rope line by any unauathorized person would be dealt with swiftly and harshly.
I have no doubt!

"for those of you that lived that funeral how does this compare?" Kennedy's funeral was 41 years ago. I will NEVER get the sound of the drumbeat and the horses' hooves out of my head. Reagan's procession was a tribute to a life well lived; Kennedy's to a life cut short. The shock and grief then was overwhelming--a totally different feel to the procession.

LA media interviewed some of the honor guard detail posted at the RR Library in Simi Valley...For you knit pickers, the members of that particular detail were on break at the time.
