This has been a very moving funeral...I have been watching pretty much non-stop since about 5:30 p.m. EST

I'm wondering why no one remembers LBJ's state funeral. I was in high school and well remember Kennedy's death and funeral. But, for the life of me, I cannot remember seeing LBJ's.

dittos.

I was a bit shocked the local Fox station didn't pick up the FNC feed.

They usually do for this type of stuff.

But, Fox is still not really a network big on news, so sometimes they just don't do what they need to even with FNC improving things (it is a lot better than before FNC).

Heck, if Sept. 11 happened before FNC, the local Fox stations just would have gone on like normal as if nothing had happened.....

Michael had his wife and children to look after. Under those circumstances, his behavior was impeccable imo. I understand that over the years, he has kept in weekly contact w/his mother, Jane Wyman. Michael was adopted when Wyman and Reagan were married and had lost 2 children after their daughter, Maureen, was born.

I think the poster meant protocol based on constitutional powers that are listed in the document.

Why nitpick?

Or is that just being a FReeper:-)

Fox has resumed its Laci Peterson coverage.

Fox sucks.

I saw your screename and looked up your homepage.

My screename comes from Valley of the Sun (ASU alum and yes I remember Coach Kush well).

I was very blessed to grow up in MD just outside Wash. DC and all our school field trips were to the Smithsonian, etc.
I have fond memories of spending July 4, 1976 in DC for Bicentennial festivities with my family and still have a huge flag that flew over the Capitol on that day. I wish so much I could have been there today.

"Has it been mentioned here that the flag covering the casket tonight is the one that flew over the U.S. Capitol on the occasion of President Reagan's first inaugural?"

Thank you for that information. I had wondered when I saw the "flaw" in the field when it had flown over the Capitol--I thought the day of his death.

I felt the salute Stevens gave was to President Reagan. There is no reason for him to salute anyone else.

After I posted that....I thought the same....what an honor..to be able to tell your children/grandchildren...."I stood as Honor Guard for President Reagan at his funeral"....it just slows the process so, as the line stops, is my other thought.

Is anyone watching David Dreier on MSNBC now?

It looks like a C-SPAN booknotes episode......

Stevens was being "offensive" and you are complaining....sheesh.

Yes. They need to play offense not defense. But not at Reagan's funeral! There's more sophisticated and subtle ways of making those points and trying to connect with independents etc without drawing too much attention to politics at a funeral.

I was channel surfing the cable news networks during the procession (taping a little of all of them) and settled on MSNBC. They seemed to have the best camera angles, and they also had a former commander of the Old Guard, who was in charge of LBJ's procession, so he had a real good insight into how everything was done.

It seemed there was an empty seat there. It may have been some reasonable explanation. Ever been someplace and it just would not have seemed right to move up front? It MIGHT have been the case.

Did you just see the old veteran get out of his wheelchair with all due deliberateness, stand shaking a little, render a firm salute, make the sign of the cross, then sit back down?

Oh Wow .. I didn't see it, but thank you for telling us

I was pretty sensitive to that stuff because I wanted to make sure we were better than the Dems.

But, I did not get that same vibe.

He mentioned a couple political things, but not to a degree that I thought was politicizing things.

I'm wondering why no one remembers LBJ's state funeral.

I can tell you why in my case. My dad thought LBJ was as crooked as a dog's hind leg and was practically handing out party favors during the coverage. That was the first time I ever heard him use any word that could be considered remotely obscene in front of us kids - he opined out loud how nice it would be to relieve his bladder (in so many words) on LBJ's grave.

Me either. I went out of my way to ignore him and his death.
