I'm wondering why no one remembers LBJ's state funeral. I was in high school and well remember Kennedy's death and funeral. But, for the life of me, I cannot remember seeing LBJ's.
I don't remember LBJ's either....wonder why that is too.
I can tell you why in my case. My dad thought LBJ was as crooked as a dog's hind leg and was practically handing out party favors during the coverage. That was the first time I ever heard him use any word that could be considered remotely obscene in front of us kids - he opined out loud how nice it would be to relieve his bladder (in so many words) on LBJ's grave.
Me either. I went out of my way to ignore him and his death.
It happened during the Watergate scandal...it tended to overshadow a lot of other stuff in the media at least.
I was elementary school age when LBJ died...all I remember is being at a friend's house and Anita Bryant singing "Battle Hymn of the Republic" on the TV...
Now that I think about the LBJ funeral the circumstances for LBJ when he left office was that he was very unpopular. So much so that instead of running in 1968 he simply quit. The Vietnam war had become his albatross. He died just over 4 years after leaving the Presidency and as I said earlier Watergate was raging at the time.
