LOS ANGELES, June 8 (UPI) -- President Reagan's family Tuesday urged churches across the United States to ring their bells Friday at the conclusion of his state funeral in Washington.

The family issued a statement saying they would like churches everywhere to join in when the bells of the National Cathedral begin to toll 40 times in honor of Reagan, who was the nation's 40th president.

The cathedral bells will ring starting in the capital at approximately 1:15 p.m. EDT Friday.

...and don't forget to participate in the rolling Memorial to RWR - by keeping you auto headlights on from now until July 4th...

I saw many cars in Maryland today participating with headlights on.

If you are a member of any church with a bell, call your pastor and ask for the honor of bell ringing. If it is refused, then respectfully ask why not.

Good advice.

Even the flags on German Federal Buildings are on half-staff today.

A 'solemn night' for farewells***Even senior Hill staffers — who are not accustomed to waiting in line for anything — waited more than an hour in lines routed through the tunnels under the Capitol and complex of office buildings.

Outside, people waited in longer lines on blistering hot concrete.

Army Lt. Larry W. Blevins, 33, woke up yesterday morning and drove eight hours from Fort Bragg, N.C., where he is stationed. After trudging for four hours up the front lawn, he entered the dark, cavernous hallway of the Capitol with a small, leather-embossed box in his hands.

Inside was the Bronze Star Lt. Blevins earned during 11 months as a combat medic in Iraq. He aimed to give the box — with his Bronze Star — to the man he called "the greatest president."

"He gave so much to us," Lt. Blevins said. "I just wanted to give something back that meant something to me."

He picked his Bronze Star, he said, because it represented "the best thing I've ever done." ***

Today's ceremony will begin after the closure of events at the Capitol, which has been the focus for a nation in mourning since Mr. Reagan's casket was delivered there by horse-drawn caisson on Wednesday. Public viewing of Mr. Reagan's casket inside the Rotunda ends at 7 a.m. At 1:45 p.m., when the funeral has ended, cathedral bells will ring for 31/2 hours. Source

Blevins intentions are good. However, I don´t think giving your medals away is appropriate. It´s not even in this case appropriate, because it was Blevins who earned it, and not President Reagan. If he really wanted to do something nice, he can dedicate his service or other good things to President Reagan. I mean, giving medals away doesn´t help anyone.

Beautiful, I own a little bar, we are close today until after the services. I am not very popular with my staff or my coustomers. Fridays are our best day. Oh well.
