With proper building practices a city can withstand a far greater quake with few casualties. Look at the quakes in CA. The mad mullahs have wasted their money on financing terrorism all over the world instead of taking care of their people. I pray that the Iranians won't have to go through this.

Last 30 days of earth quake activity. Lots of shallow activity in Europe and the Middle East.

Probably got word that Kerry is a dork and Bush will cruise to reelection.

Perhaps the Iranians should get used to the ground shaking. If they keep playing with developing nuclear capability the ground is going to shake a lot.

It's just the thumping of thousands of refugees fleeing to a free Iraq.
To: Bobby777
It must be for their sins. At least such is the traditional interpretation.

With aftershocks still rumbling, news that a quake would hit Tehran on Friday, May 29 at precisely 4:00 pm spread like wildfire. The source of the rumour was supposedly state media, and prompted yet more evacuations. The truth, however, is hard to bear for many. "It is impossible to predict the power and timing of an earthquake," insisted Mohsen Ghafori Ashtiani, president of Iran's Seismological Institute.

I was a new director in Watsonville during the quake of 89. Believe me the rumours get spread quickly--had a Salinas TV station spread the story that an 8.0 quake would hit Friday.( THis was after the 7/1 quake on TUesday) I had to call my buddy at USGS to get on the air and calm folks down.
Ironically I did a series of reorts that April on the effects of a 7.0 quake in the Santa Cruz Mountains. It happened pretty much the way experts predicted.

The interesting part of the news article was that everyone seemed to think that the rumors came from government sources...since nearly the same survival advice would be given for living after a Quake as after a nuclear attack.
I wouldn't rule out government pre-conditioning here.

I check Cali/US maps quite often and the last couple of months have been really busy. Lil creaks but very busy none the less.
I have also noticed quakes throughout the US. I relize other states quake now and then but the amount all in a short time makes me go hmmmmmmmm.
