"My feeling is that what we say here, although it could be used against us in the media, is far different than actually appearing at an event like the Wellstone funeral and acting disrespectfully."

Venting. Yes, there is something to that...but I was making a larger point: that we simply don't need that level of hate/vitriol.

An opponent has paid his respects to one of our fallen. Mentally and emotionally, we should simply leave it at that (though the cameraman's trespass is outside the scope of that point).

It was a transparent photo op--not paying respect to one of our fallen. Reagan's death has put Kerry's campaign on hold. He needs some visibility as the President is doing his thing in Normandy, the G8 conference, and presiding over the State funeral. Bush has the entire nation's attention all week. Kerry wants a piece of the action even if it means exploiting the death of a President he couldn't stand and was highly critical of.

"..but even mortal enemies can show respect to their deceased opponents by respectfully viewing/treating the body." Are you saying that Fidel Castro should be allowed to fly in and view the casket? (you presume Reagan's enemies are capable of respect, but evil is evil)

I agree. I remember the outrage I felt when the democrats at Wellstone's memorial booed some of our Republican senators. It was tasteless. We do not need to show the same level of poor tast. Kerry's actions today are for the camera and everyone will see it as such. But if we respond without dignity, we are only showing Reagan and his family disrespect.
