WASHINGTON (AP) Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, flying to California on Tuesday to attend graduation ceremonies for his daughter, was considering paying his respects to Ronald Reagan as the former president's body lay in repose at his presidential library.Kerry suspended public campaign events this week in honor of Reagan, who died Saturday.
Kerry and his aides were considering a visit Tuesday afternoon, the campaign said. The period in which Reagan will lie in repose at the library in Simi Valley, a community northwest of Los Angeles, was scheduled to end Tuesday evening.
Reagan's death has shifted attention from the campaign to national mourning and commemorations of his historical and political legacy.
Kerry planned to attend the state funeral for Reagan on Friday at Washington's National Cathedral.
Kerry's daughter, Alexandra, is graduating from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. He planned to attend the ceremony and a screening of her short film, "The Last Full Measure," which tells the story of a 9-year-old girl and her father's difficult return home from the Vietnam War.
Kerry is a decorated Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. His daughter has said the film is not autobiographical.
"Senator Clinton has been very quiet."
You're right!
But why would she keep silent? Maybe I'm dense but what downside would there be to saying something respectful about President Reagan?
Rush is laughing about this article and 'Kerry was in Viet Nam.'
LOL, touche. :)
The funny thing about my statement is that I am really serious.
Limbaugh just made an excellent point about how Kerry will be perceived for jumping to the head of the line, past people who've been waiting for hours, for a cynical photo-op.
Rush is cautioning Kerry to not do this (go to the Library in California), because some have been in line up to 10 hours and won't appreciate Kerry's breaking in line.
Oh, please please please please go J.effin K!! Pleae do this crass and tasteless thing. Your spin, AFTER the American people spit at you for it, will be highly entertaining.
Please John......go.
Of that, I have no doubt.
But the image of a US Senator in a blue suit shoveling "road apples" into a trash can is precious.
If he shows up, I hope the crowd stones him.
Hanoi John not fit enough to shine Ronnnie's shoes. FVCK HIM and the swift boat he rode in on!
Rush just played a clip of Kerry saying he fought against 'Reagan's illegal war in Central America.'
Jock strap? To hold up what?
THERE AIN'T NOTHING DOWN THERE THATS PROTRUDING!
What a pathetic little man.
No, stay the hell away. Because of security concerns he will take away the ability of hundreds, perhaps thousands to view the casket.
The Reagan Administration has no rational plan for our military. Instead, it acts on misinformed assumptions about the strength of the Soviet military and a presumed window of vulnerability, which we now know not to exist.
And Congress, rather than having the moral courage to challenge the Reagan Administration, has given Ronald Reagan almost every military request he has made, no matter how wasteful, no matter how useless, no matter how dangerous.
There is a time reserved on Washington for the "swells" to pay respects, before the masses are allowed in.
What is his hurry?
If he want's to wait in line with everyone else, fine. Otherwise he can wait until the DC ceremonies and take his place with the other 49 Senators.
