I just got done watching the Dateline interview with George Bush and Tom Brokaw and I was impressed, even by my already high opinion of George Bush, on how well he did.
What impressed me most was the fact he corrected Brokaw and in my opinion led the interview instead of being led himself. His answers were full of self-confidance I havent seen in him in awhile and his demeanor was of absolute control. My only grudge with Bush is the same one I have always had on his answers. Stop and think for a few seconds before answering, thoughtful pauses are always best at the beginning of an answer whether than in the middle of one.

Hey, alot of us have that problem...I think he's just so anxious to get the answer out that he sometimes has to shift gears while in the middle of the sentence. The thoughts are there and they all want to get out at the same time.

It's a good interview, and they also just finished a pretty cool tribute to Ronald Reagan.
I agree. I never watch the networks but started watching when I went into my dad's room. I thought Bush was very good.
I watched the interview. Although Brokow tried time and again to trip him up Bush kept his cool and his focus. He came off looking very determined and completely at ease with his positions and his leadership.
One of the nicest touches of the Dateline story (and Bush was indeed on his game, and more confident and articulate than I have EVER seen in the interview context), was listening to Laura Bush, who was also very poised and articulate as she spoke about her father's service, and the meaning the moment and the historical event, and watching Bush listen to her, with admiration and love. You could just see it in his face. This couple is very much in love with each other. It sort of reminds me of the Reagans.
I'd rather have GWB be the way he is instead of like my hubby can be...he takes so long to answer questions sometimes, the conversation has gone on and when he starts his answer no one knows what the heck he is talking about!! (He had to be 100% right when he was a kid, his dad was a big creep)
Bush was firm but polite in putting brawkow in his place.
There was something too sweet to be wholesome about the Reagan's gooey love, as far as I'm concerned. Something too other-worldly about it, or, perhaps, it was too much like a secret society that shut the whole world out. Nancy's doe-eyed gaze at her husband always seemed too oddly school-girlish for a grown woman.
GWB and Laura have a love I can relate to, a sort of real thing of this earth with no fairies dancing about their heads. I agree completely, though, they are very much in love. They are also eminently decent, salt of the earth people.
Just wait 'til he debates Kerry. He has improved 120% since 2000 when he debated ol' "Sighing Al". He will clean Kerry's clock.

I think Brit Hume is the only one worthy of an interview with the President. You have to have respect for the man, before you can talk to him.
Let me introduce a word back into the political discussion - GRAVITAS. Bush has it.

This interview was a bombshell performance for Bush. This was the best I've seen him since the 2000 campaign.
I couldn't help but smile throughout the entire interview. He really did a great job against the libs expectations of him.
